In addition to the numerous, excellent meals I was treated to, consisting of various fresh seafoods such as oysters, shrimp and fish, I especially enjoyed the walk on the white-sand beach located in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama. To explain this location a bit better, it's located very near Pensacola, Florida. It was awesome! Karen and I gathered lots of sea shells and she wanted some driftwood for a craft project, and we just walked the beach, barefoot - with our pant legs rolled up - commenting on the fact that we could not believe the weather, as it was only the 9th of February.
Mardi gras, "Tuesday fat", is quite the celebration down this way, as one would expect, with celebrations being advertised for this coming week on the 17th. I even was able to have a piece of "King Cake" - very popular here - which is a very rich pastry-like cake with lots of gooey filling and icing. Definitely one of those things you need just one small piece only! It was fabulous.
In order to get this into the newspaper on time, I sent it via email from Jeff's computer on Monday evening. I will be flying back home tomorrow and am looking forward to getting back to good ole' Alba Pennsylvania, and especially to be with my husband Ron and dog Palin. However, I must say, I had a wonderful time and was treated like royalty by all my family. Again, MAN-THEY WERE GOOD OYSTERS at Lulu's (Jimmy Buffet's sister)!
