By Anna Belle Leonard The Gillett Senior Citizens finally enjoyed a day that looks and feels like spring with temperatures around 60 degrees.
A walking group was formed and took the first walk of the year around town. Many in the Center were filling eggs with candy in preparation for the children's Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 4th starting at 10:30 a.m. Children from toddlers to ten are welcome to participate. Two big events took place on Sister Street last week, one of which was great-grandson Jake spending the day while his Mom worked. This little guy didn't cause one minute of trouble until about 15 seconds after his mother returned. We may have been the second choice in the baby-sitting list as his grandmother Lisa was on her way to Florida to meet her brother and take a cruise to some lush tropical island or two. Her brother Chris called me Saturday evening to tell me they were leaving Tampa and it was 83 degrees. Very funny. Like I don't know it's warm in Florida (finally).
Kids Say The Darndest Things- Part II
6. When I was six months pregnant with my third child, my three year old came into the room when I was just getting ready to get into the shower. She said, 'Mummy, you are getting fat!' I replied, 'Yes, honey, remember Mummy has a baby growing in her tummy.''I know,' she replied, but what's growing in your hinney?' By Evangelist Eric Smith “He said to them, ‘This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.’ 45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, ‘This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem,” Luke 24:44-47. Each time Jesus appeared to the disciples, following His resurrection, He gave instructions. These verses are a section of the last instructions Jesus gave before His ascension into heaven.
By Jim Lewis Once again Easter has come and gone. Like Christmas and perhaps the 4th of July, it is a day we look forward to and a day we remember. We can often remember what happened last Easter and what we did, be it a family get together, hiding candy for children, a church service or an Easter egg hunt. It can also be a reminder that another year has passed. Was it a good year? Bad? Has anything really changed?
By Bill Bower Last week’s article was about the pigeon being introduced into North America and how quickly these birds came to be pests. Recently, I read in the Boone and Crocket Club’s “Fair Chase” magazine about the passenger pigeon, which was a native bird that became extinct.
On September 1, 1914, the last passenger pigeon, a female named Martha, died at the Cincinnati Zoo in Ohio. Martha’s last companion, a male passenger pigeon named George, died four years earlier. The two birds were named after the nation’s first family, George and Martha Washington. By Lois Ribovich The Ralston UM Church Bake and Yard Sale is April 11 at the Fire Hall.
Newelltown Spring Yard Sale will be May 14-15, 9-5. On May 16, 9-12. Plants will be available. The next meeting of the Ralston School Reunion is April 12 at 2 pm in the Book Swap shop. Usually the week after Easter we think about how to use the leftover ham or lamb. But this year, the chef felt a bit whimsical and decided to use leftover jelly beans.
By Fr. Michael McCormick Dear Readers,
HE IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN, INDEED! ALLELUIA! The long days of preparation are over. The fasting has come to an end. It is now time to celebrate the most extraordinary gift of the ages, the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It was not for His own benefit that Jesus died. Nor was it for His benefit that He rose. We are the beneficiaries. By Kathie Lepper I really don't think that the Easter snow dampened anyone's Easter spirit here on "The Ridge". Everyone I saw this morning seemed very happy with their Easter celebrations with family and friends.
Before I get into the Easter news, there were some other items from earlier in the week. Jeannette May reported she saw LaVonne McNett working in the flower beds around here one day this past week. She told LaVonne that she was making sure it made the column, thanking her for making it so pretty around here. I could say the same for Esther Terwilliger. I saw her out there working early this morning. I'm sure there were also others we didn't see, but we appreciate them all! By Esther Butcher The Easter egg hunt was successful, but the day was very windy and cold. Monday was a much better day of sunshine and warmer temperatures.
Judy Bristol says 17 members of the family spent Easter with Judy and David. Their great, great nephew Grayson House will be 1 on the 9th of April. Everyone had a good time visiting. Palm Sunday Helmut and Ruth Wicker, Schnecksville, PA, Charles and Martha Denkenberger of Montrose, PA, Jim and Joan and Scott Denkenberger of Granville and Owen and Paul Brackman of W. Leroy met at the home of Gerald and Marjorie Pratt in Windfall for Sunday dinner. Ruth and Helmut also attended Church services. By Rev. Kenneth Marple Sometimes You Have To Change Things
Most people come to counseling with feelings of helplessness. Of course, these feelings generate a great deal of pain and discomfort! Bad things have been happening to them. Initially, counseling provides needed support for the client. However, in the best case outcome counseling leads the client to discover and develop the resources to effect changes for him or himself. At the foundation of all good counseling is the idea that you can change things, including yourself! If you have an intolerable situation, habit, or feeling in your life, what makes you think things will become better if you do nothing? By John Shaffer Last week we wrote about President Obama’s support for a deal with Iran. Something happened last week, and the President celebrated it. It wasn’t a deal; it wasn’t the framework of a deal; it may be an understanding that both sides accept some terms that may lead to a deal in the next three months; but whatever it is, its value to the President seems to be greater than its importance as a tool to keep the peace.
By Canton Fitness Center Believe it or not, today there is a concern over malnutrition. It’s not that there isn’t enough food available, but rather there often isn’t enough nutrition in the food we eat. Interestingly, researchers are finding that the body continues to send out signals to eat more in an attempt to get enough nutrients. How important it is to eat healthy food so you aren’t deficient. How can you tell if you are vitamin deficient? Read on.
By Terren Smith Hi, how was your week?
Last week I was very sick. Our prayer list: Barb Eiffert, Dora McDonald, Pastor Rich Noggle, Phyllis Noggle, and Shirley Greenough. Most of them are on the mend but mending is very slow. Pancake Days at Fay's went well. In fact very well. I think we had a well oiled crew that worked well together and for the most everything went smoothly. Thank you for all who helped and a special thank you goes out to all who came out to support the Big Pond Lions' annual pancake days. |
