Natural gas is used to generate about 27% of America’s electricity. The former chief economist for the Department of Labor did some calculations and found out if that energy were provided instead from solar power, the electricity generated would be about 25% more costly. Some producers make products that are too expensive for the average consumer to buy -such as multi-million dollar mansions, luxury cars, and other items; and many consumers want such products and are able to pay for them. All well and good, as long as someone else isn't standing the cost. People who want solar power that proves to be more expensive should pay the full cost of it themselves
What all this shows is not that solar power is a failure – it shows that government subsidies are a failure, and they can underwrite inefficiency and give a leg up to projects and industries that could not exist on their own in the marketplace. And of course, the money that goes to them is extracted from productive sources and diverted away from places where it could be much more usefully applied.
