Albert Einstein once quipped, "I have no particular talent. I am merely inquisitive." The motivational speaker Leo Buscaglia often said, "Your talent is God's gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God." According to Ben Franklin “Hide not your talents, they for use were made. What's a sundial in the shade?” Let's let Joan Crawford have the last word in this list of quotes, “I think that the most important thing a woman can have- next to talent, of course- is her hairdresser.”
Why is life like that? I don't know. We are all equal in the eyes of God. In an election our votes are all equal. But when it comes to our abilities, we are as different as different can be. God simply did not make us all the same. Some people have five talents, some two and some one. There are those have great intellectual capabilities, and those who do not. There are some who have the ability to project and articulate their thoughts, and there are some who cannot. There are some who have physical prowess and attractive looks, and there are some who do not.
The important thing to remember is that each servant was given something. No one was left idle. And each of these talents were given for the good of others. For the followers of Jesus Christ, all our blessings and graces are given for the salvation of our souls and for the good of others.
When the servant with one talent did not use it, the Master said: “Take the talent away from him, and give it to the servant who has the ten talents. For to everyone who has more will be given, and he will have enough and to spare; but the one who has not will forfeit even the little he has.”
What is the meaning of this? Whoever has received for the good of others the ability and the means to preach and teach, to build and create, and does not use it, will lose whatever benefits and blessings the Master has in store, whereas the zealous servant will be given more, even as the other forfeits what he had.
"America's Got Talent". Now use it to the glory of God and the good of others. Otherwise, all that talent is really just a waste-- of time and talent.
Prayerfully, Father Mike.
