I read an article this morning about the cold in Butler County and the one room schools, etc. where school was never closed or late starting. I don't think they have anything to brag about. I seem to remember similar weather here in Bradford County.
I remember zero weather and walking or riding sleds to Main Road even though our grandfather was the school bus driver. Lots of times the school bus was down on the Main Road because it couldn't get up the hill.
I remember sometimes when we rode down off by the hill on bobsleds loaded with milk from the neighborhood and then the horses were used to pull the bus to get it started.
Sometimes us boys would go to the neighbors to get warm while granddad went down to Sayles to pick up some of the other kids, much like the Butler County weather in the article.
Also Bradford County had its share of one room schools. I know where some of them were in Granville Twp. One of them, the Northwoods School was still in use until the late '40s, 1947 if my memory is right.
Friday last week was a busy day around Hillcrest with the AARP Tax people here.
One day last week we watched the mother deer standing on the sidewalk where she could see us inside. She was stretching her neck all ways after emptying the bird feeder. She works all ways to get to it. Always making sure lots of food gets on the ground for the two little ones who can't reach the feeder to eat.
That and the birds and squirrels playing on the crusted snow. We get lots of entertainment here at Hillcrest.
Residents are reminded of the pot luck dinner, Saturday and the tenant meeting next Monday evening.
We welcome Rick Benson as a new tenant.
The Sunday night service was lead by Richard Pratt with a message from Psalm 121 "God's sustaining power. His loving care, and help for all of us." Shirley Young played the piano for the song service.
These many weeks being unable to get to church Sunday morning makes one realize how important these Sunday night church services mean to those who are not able to get out.
