At least the gardens haven't needed watering. The glads and the lilies, etc. are really beautiful. We tied some cucumber plants and are training them to climb up tomato cages. They sure look nice and lots of blossoms. We should have enough cucumbers for everyone.
It sure has been summer weather this past week with a little wet weather mixed in.

The House Wren, also known as the Jenny Wren, is one of the most melodious birds in Pennsylvania. Even though the bird is widespread and very common in all 67 counties in Pennsylvania, we only get them in our backyard about every other year. The house wren is welcome addition. Often we will hear their songs and not see the bird(s) for some time as they are quite small and love cover. By William Bower
By Esther Butcher The sunshine sure has been wonderful, wish it wasn’t going to rain for a straight week. At least the farmers got some hay in. The yards just seem to keep growing very fast, you have to mow when you can.
April, Zachary and Danica came up to visit her parents Gary and Esther on Sunday, April, Esther and the twins went to Kmart. Bill had a shooting affair somewhere and was busy. Of course, Zach kicked his shoe off in Kmart and April had to go back in and find it, just back tracked and found it, Danica threw Elmo and we got him alright. It’s always interesting shopping with the twins (even in their stroller). By William Bower Several days after Scott Crandell, of Mifflinburg, sent me a picture of a crow carrying a young bird in its beak, I saw a crow come out of a dumpster, with a morsel of food in its beak, and fly away. Later, in the week, I watched as crows chased a red-tail hawk, and on another day, crows being chased by songbirds.
Henry Ward Beecher wrote, "If men wore feathers, very few of them would be clever enough to be crows." The crow is a remarkable bird, and some even say that it is our smartest bird. Although man has always considered the crow as its enemy and killed them indiscriminately, the crow has thrived on man's activities. Today, we have more crows than when the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. By Canton Fitness Center Bone Health And You
Everyone knows that strong bones are crucial for good health and quality of life. Good nutrition and weight bearing exercise play key roles in keeping bones healthy and strong. Today we will focus on the nutrition part of the equation. From conception to death, nutrition has an affect on our bone health and density. Bones grow the most before age 18 and hold steady until about 30. This is when things start to go the other way. Unfortunately, most people in the U.S. will lose about 0.5% of bone mass each year after forty. This chronic bone loss leads to osteoporosis in older age. How you eat can impact bone growth and rate of decline at any point in life. By Rev. Kenneth Marple M.A. All or Nothing Nonsense!
A few years ago, one of my good friends got cancer and died. As with many of those who have seen fit to confer wonderful friendship upon me, she left me with a gift to take along through the remainder of my own life. It wasn't a thing that she gave me; it was a way of thinking. It wasn't even so much the fact that she spoke the idea to me; she actually believed in the idea. When things were at their worst for her she said, "I'd rather have half-a-loaf, than no loaf at all." For me, she has become that phrase. By Evangelist Eric Smith “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ” Ephesians 1:3. We are taking a closer look at each section of the sentence, beginning with verse three and going through fourteen, over the next several weeks. This is the same Scripture we did a brief overview of two weeks ago. Paul writes so every word has a special meaning to teach us how to be faithful Christians.
By Jim Lewis Do you remember, “Tim the Tool Man Taylor?” His many attempts at household repair would ultimately end up in disaster. Funny, Yes. Realistic for some of us…maybe. Home repair shows are popular because most home owners either need or want to make things better. For some of us, it seems to never end. Either something is always rotten or broken or by the time you have finally remodeled the entire house, it’s time to start over again. Sound familiar?
The teacher gave her fifth grade class an assignment: Get their parents to tell them a story with a moral at the end of it. The next day, the kids came back and, one by one, began to tell their stories.
There were all the regular types of stuff: Spilled milk and pennies saved. But then the teacher realized, that only Janie was left."Janie, do you have a story to share?""Yes ma'am. My daddy told me a story about my Mommy. By Charles Rockwell It must have been June in 1933. Our school was over and my mother had arranged for my sister Jane and me to spend two weeks up above Hammondsport, NY with my Aunt Pearl and her husband Leon.
At that time on the hills to the west of Keuka Lake the main highway along the lake was concrete. The road along the top of Bully Hill was dirt and the road in the middle was a blacktop. From Uncle Leon's front porch on Bully Hill we could view the Keuka Lake and even watch the sailboat races. On the next farm lived the Bailey family. Mary and Jim were a little older than Jane and I. By Anna Belle Leonard The Gillett Senior Citizens met on July 2nd and were entertained by Lee Souto's band called "Northern Harmony." Their music was familiar oldies with lot of rhythm. We would have loved to dance, but most of us could only sit and enjoy the memories.
We welcomed Phyllis Ward back. She has been recuperating from a broken ankle. Attendance was down as several regular members were away. By Terren Smith Hi all, how was your week?
This week went fast because of the holiday. Friday night there were fireworks in Towanda and they were very good. Saturday night East Smithfield had them at the lake in Big Pond. They were also good. Both had beautiful nights. Faith Community, Big Pond and Wetona have a new preacher, Josh Davinsizer. The people I talked to like him very much. I will get to hear him at the Galilean Service at the lake the 3rd Sunday in August. By Richard & Joyce Pratt This past week has given us nice summer days and lots of rain.
With all the rain God has given us and some help from the birds and squirrels, transplanting some of our flowers to bare spots and God even made a sunflower come up from the bird feeder. Now we have a beautiful sunflower looking right in at us to say good morning at the kitchen window. God's beautiful garden is looking even more beautiful. Belated birthday wishes go to Polly Wright who celebrated her birthday last week. Also to Sandy Benson on the 10th and Elsie Collins on the 11th. Happy birthday ladies! |
