The Sister Street Bridge Commission has not held a meeting for several months so I think it should be disbanded. Our few meetings were usually held in the middle of the street at the job-site anyway. I made it a priority on my things to do list last week.
Meetings, meetings, meetings. I had four of these things in a week and I can tell you that three of them were a waste of time. I can't tell which were and were not but you get the idea.
The Sister Street Bridge Commission has not held a meeting for several months so I think it should be disbanded. Our few meetings were usually held in the middle of the street at the job-site anyway. I made it a priority on my things to do list last week. By Lorelei Colton It’s with great sorrow that I tell you that my brother Art passed away peacefully last Saturday, Valentine’s Day, around 8AM, at his daughter Lugene’s home in Georgetown, Florida, following a brief battle with cancer that lasted less than 3 months. Though I am extremely sad, I am ever so grateful for the time that my other brother Jeff and I were able to spend with him just the week before his passing.

By Kathie Lepper I've been out and about trying to gather some news for this column here on "The Ridge."
It smells so delicious all over this building today! Kathie Temple and Carol Brown are making soup for the pot luck supper this afternoon. I'm hungry already! Lent is an observance lasting 40 days starting on Ash Wednesday and ending just before Easter Sunday. The purpose of Lent is to focus on Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and the miracle of His Resurrection. During the Lenten season many people make a personal commitment to fasting or giving up certain things in their lives as an act of penitence.
During Lent some Christians give up items to show the sacrifice of Jesus. The following are recipes which do not feature meat. By Fr. Michael McCormick Dear Readers,
We celebrated Ash Wednesday on February 18th. This began the season of Lent which is a time of renewal for the whole Church. Our Holy Father Pope Francis reminds us that lent is a "time of Grace" (2 Cor 6:2). God does not ask of us anything that He himself has not given us. "We love because He first has loved us" (1 Jn 4:19). By Bill Bower ![]() At Christmas, our son and daughter-in-law gave us a gift of a weekend stay at a bed and breakfast in Williamsburg, Virginia; however, the best part was when we heard they were going with us. During the holidays, I decided to write an article about the mistletoe plant. On our trip south, I knew that I would be able to take pictures of mistletoe. We headed south on the 30th of January, and, with our son doing the driving, I was able to scan the roadsides for mistletoe plants growing on tree branches. Wildlife Observations & Memories, Part III
I was just getting ready to fish on Elk Creek, about ½ miles below the Lincoln Falls Bridge in Sullivan County. It was the same area mentioned in last week’s column where Linda & I actually petted a wild deer. There is a huge swimming hole where I started, just at daybreak. Before I retired most of the work on the full feature desk computer was done by well educated young ladies .I retired with only a hunt and peck ability on "ask.com" and "Google". If I asked someone for help they took the job over to save time. I was satisfied that I would never need to get involved with a computer, till at my son's house one day we both sat down at his computer and biff-bang-bing we started to talk in real time by a thing called"REPLY TO SENDER E-MAIL",with a daughter of mine who is in HONG KONG.
By Jim Lewis Have you flown lately? Ever? The last time I took a trip it was to South America. The return home started in Peru and ended up in Ithaca N.Y. via Bogota Columbia, Miami Fla., then Newark N.J. and finally Ithaca. With the layovers, security checks, boarding, customs etc. it took about a day and a half for the trip. Was it a hassle? Yes. Was it worth it? Yes.
By Evangelist Eric Smith Peter’s underlining meaning is this is urgent. To see the urgency you must understand the full scope of the responsibilities or duties of the elders. Much has been written about eldership. To give the best summary is to quote Charles E. B. Cranfield, a Biblical commentator, “The chief functions of the shepherd, as they are depicted in the Bible, are to seek out the lost, gather the scattered, watch over and defend against wild beasts and robbers, to feed and water, to lead”.
by John Shaffer Well, the “good news” is that solar energy generated 15.9 million kilowatt hours of electricity in the United States from January through October 2014. That’s up a bit from a year earlier. The “bad news” is that over the past five years the federal government has subsided the solar energy industry with $39 billion of taxpayer money. Is the return on that subsidy worth it? Well, that 15.9 million kwH amounts to about one-half of one percent of all the electricity generated in America.
by Bill Bower ![]() I am often asked what season is my favorite time to be in the woods, and I quickly respond with, “In the fall when I see the changing colors of the leaves and hear the occasional flushing of a grouse from a stand of aspen trees.” But then, I think of spring when everything is coming to life and hearing the sound of a turkey gobbling, while trying to attract a mate, and my answer changes. However, visions of a short walk on the mountain in the snowy winter woods is as beautiful and interesting as the other seasons, and I again change my mind. When the first snowflakes of the year begin falling from the sky, drifting down through the bare branches and collecting on the ground, many things are seen that are missed in other seasons of the year, and one is the princess pine (aka ground pine). by Stratton "Lefty" Schaeffer Chris Kyle's St. Crispin's Day Values
In early February of 2013 former Navy Seal, Chris Kyle, was shot and killed at a Texas firing range. His assailant, Eddie Routh, was a veteran of the Iraq conflict who allegedly suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Kyle was in the process of mentoring Routh as they engaged in recreational range shooting. Wildlife Observations & Memories, Part II It was September 1991. Linda & I had just met so one could state that we were “courting.” I took her on the trout fishing trip at Lincoln Falls Bridge in Sullivan County. This is a fine trout stream and only stocked from the bridge downstream. |
