A check on some residents' health issues revealed that Marvin from over on Windfall Road has been back in for a tune-up and is now back home and doing well. I spoke with Dessa up in Alba Heights about some clown business recently and learned her husband Joe is doing well after some heart problems and will be back taking care of our cemetery once again this year.
Our best wishes to Nancy Kinner upon her return to Boston. She will participate in the Boston Marathon once again. Those of you who are up before daylight know she is often spotted running sometimes ten miles before the rest of us have our Cheerios. I am usually up very early each morning but I certainly will not be running.
It was nice to see my Dad Bob and my Uncle John's Hometown Heroes banners up on Route 14. Another Uncle, Larry, is appropriately across the street from his barber shop. Yet another veteran, Wesley, should be up but I haven't seen it yet. All four of these brothers were in service to the rest of us at the same time and if any were asked if they would like a photo of themselves on a pole would say, "not really." But it's nice for the rest of us.
Although the State Police have been spending a lot more time in the area we still have at least one driver who conducts an acceleration test workdays approximately 5 am. One of these mornings when my ambition returns I will go out and wish him a nice day or something along those lines.
It appears that one driver wanted to provide free landscaping at the park; not so talented but did manage to remove one post and dig a couple of drainage ditches. We have a "sound" witness and partial description. I'm certain it will have some yellow on it somewhere. One can only hope.
I have noticed the political signs just like spring flowers are popping up all over the place. Like the flowers many have a smell and some are perennial or else they are after a different job.
Due to a prior commitment last Saturday we could not attend the auction at the Troy Fairgrounds. We did stop to pick up some raffle tickets and believe me when I say parking was not available except in the middle of the lanes between the cars already there. Add to that who knows how many fishermen and the east end of Troy was a very busy place.
After three or four weeks gas prices in New York remain lower than Pennsylvania. Thanks, Governor Wolf.
Didja ever think living in a small town means everyone knows the news and they buy the paper just to see if the editor got it right.
Granddaughter Raeleen called her Mom from New Mexico Saturday night to report their kitten was missing but was found a short while later sleeping in a dresser drawer. Ron's youngest sister had placed the cat in there. Probably for safekeeping.
While on my way to a meeting in Canton one night I couldn't miss the noise of the spring "peepers." It sounded like there must have been thousands of the tiny things. As I learned later a group of them is called an Army.
Instead of the auction we opted to attend the annual mid-winter picnic hosted by Frank and Barbara Johnson, the same folks who have the charity event in Montour Falls. One hundred folks were there; that works out to fifty dishes to pass and not one held baked beans. But as Hillary would say, what difference at this point does it make?
