I was hard at work in my machinery shed when I was visited by another journalist from over on the Windfall Road- the well-known outdoor writer. I always welcome a visit because it gives me a reason to stop whatever I'm doing and take a break. After a visit that included a discussion about woodchucks and other important issues he continued his tour around town and I went back to my work.
Friday morning I went to Canton and the Chatterbox for pleasant conversation but instead was verbally assaulted by the President of the Fire Department. His biggest complaint was a handful of cornstalks left from a demonstration and a small amount of firewood the cowboys did not use. How this all became my fault I will never know but in order to resolve any conflict and further harassment, I said I would see what I could do. My wife and I took rakes and shovels to the fairground about 3 pm that day only to find all was OK. No cornstalks and no firewood. I guess I wasn't the only one to feel his wrath.
The youngest daughter arrived from the Poconos on Saturday to attend a bridal shower Sunday. We enjoyed a cook-out at the home of the oldest daughter complete with youngest son which is rare. Later in the evening we all went "uptown" to Canton's annual block dance. Always very good entertainment and interesting people. Our great granddaughters have a great time.
The bridal shower was held the same time as we had a prior commitment in Elmira, NY. Another great-granddaughter was having a second birthday party. Adreana made it despite a couple of downpours and trying to stay awake while opening her presents. I have the same problem at that time of day.
Happy birthday also to her maternal grandmother Shelly, who shares a birth date (June 15). I told her when one reaches her age it is not much of a celebration.
When I talked with Chris in Florida on Sunday he was looking forward to the arrival of his granddaughter Serenity Matson of Monroeton. She will get to the Sunshine State on the 17th but she has probably been packed and ready for a month.
Now for "news not needed." The Pres. says we don't have a plan to stop ISIS. Way to go, Mr. O.
The queen is 89 years old. I remember watching her coronation on TV. But I don't know why. And so far Marge, the peppers are looking good.
