It turned out we or one of us wasn't satisfied with looking to see what they had. A truckload of stuff had to come home with us so we could look it over for a long time. What started with me taking a box or two to the truck and each time I returned and there were a couple more waiting.
We spotted a truck in the parking lot, covered with snow, and after a short investigation it was learned the truck belonged to the Bastions who live on Armenia Mountain. Mystery solved.
The neighbor got a new kitchen stove. These are the same folks who are remodeling bathrooms and buying new cars and trucks.
Cindy went up the street and removed part of a tree that was leaning close to the road. Although she is not on the street crew I hope her efforts are appreciated.
I finished off the garden, pulled leftover squash and tomato vines and added them to the compost bin. I had a neighbor tell me she still has broccoli growing and she also mentioned several deer in her backyard. I've heard a couple of reports of a very large buck nearby, with a nice rack. My wife has seen it but I have not.
We voted early last Tuesday morning so we can gripe and complain about anything or anyone. I heard a rumor about possible voter fraud in our town. I approached the alleged criminal and was assured nothing of the sort happened.
The weekend was spent in Mt. Pocono where things are a lot quieter now. We went down on Friday, then on to Lehighton on Saturday for great-grandson Jaden Brown's playoff football game against a team from Bethlehem, who of course were huge, so it was no surprise the Pleasant Valley Cubs ended their postseason with a 28-21 loss. These folks get a bit too serious about football, if you ask me. I counted at least nine coaches, a couple mothers and at least as many cheerleaders as players. One of my grandsons who is now in his late twenties actually leaned over and said, "I've got to get out of here…I'm having flashbacks!" After the game we came home by way of Jim Thorpe, Hazelton, Danville, Sort of a scenic route. It was interesting to note the changes over the last thirty or forty years. The city of Hazelton seemed to be the most notable improvement. We used Route 93 which takes you through the center of town. New sidewalks, wide, recently-paved streets, and clean, neat-looking storefronts. Of course, you must remember this was the middle of the afternoon. I recall making deliveries to a place in Hazelton (that I won't name) that if you could not be in and out before dark then it was "see you in the morning." This was the customer's advice so they were kinda looking out for you.
We were forced to hurry home to attend the Tioga County Early Days Appreciation Dinner held at Whitneyville, PA. Roast turkey, ham, dressing, gravy. The whole thing was a thank-you to all the vendors and helpers that made the October show a success. Oddly, we and others saw a lot of folks having dinner that we have never seen before.
The President said he heard what the voters said and he also heard what the non-voters said. The question is, Did he listen?
