It’s funny, an eight hour layover in Bogota seems like a long time, (and it is) but it doesn’t create the impatience caused by being in the back of a large aircraft after it lands. Have you been there? The plane finally lands, nearly everyone is immediately on their feet getting their carry-on baggage and making cell phone calls. Then the wait... The plane door opens and SLOWLY the passengers depart. You stand back and watch the whole human traffic jam eventually unfold itself. Then finally you make it to the exit tunnel, and into the airport. I’m free! That five minutes feels like a week and a half.
Sometimes life feels like you are at the back of the plane after landing. You might have hopes, dreams and plans for your life and children’s lives and even be able to see them unfolding, but something gets in the way and slows things down. Maybe you even see the plan ending completely. Then what? Will you ever get off the plane and into the airport? Will you ever be free? The answer is yes if Heaven is your final destination.
Life may seem like a series of layovers and flight delays, but…that’s life! God says that we might think we are in control of the plan ultimately He is. Proverbs 16:9 says, “A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.” And Isaiah 55:8, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” But finally in Heaven, Rev. 21: 4 and 5! “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new…”
God says that He is in charge of your flight schedule, layovers, delays, security and connecting flights. YOU are responsible in determining your final destination. If you choose Christ, it makes the whole trip worth it! Something to think about…
Speaking of life not going as planned: You have to try on a pair of sunglasses with that little plastic thing in the middle of them. The person behind you in the supermarket runs his cart into the back of your ankle. The elevator stops on every floor and nobody gets on. There’s always a car riding your tail when you’re slowing down to find an address. You open a can of soup and the lid falls in. There’s a dog in the neighborhood that barks at EVERYTHING. You can never put anything back in a box the way it came. Your tire gauge lets out half the air while you’re trying to get a reading, and…You had that pen in your hand only a second ago and now you can’t find it. Other than that, it’s been a good day!
