![]() Ronald Eugene Stone, 53, Hallstead, PA (formerly a long-time Canton resident) passed away April 15, 2017 at home with his wife and loving family members by his side after a long battle with cancer. Born on Feb. 20, 1964 in Sayre, PA to the late Robert “Bob” and Lois (Laninger) Stone. He and his wife Sue married on May 21, 2016. Ron or “Stoney” to most was a fun-loving man who enjoyed music, playing Euchre, hunting (Flintlock being his favorite season) and spending time with his wife at Camp, a special little place on Armenia Mountain where he could relax watching the campfire and enjoy the company of his wife and a special group of friends and family. Ron looked forward to a chicken BBQ held every year on Labor Day weekend when the small camp seemed huge with many friends and family. Stoney will be greatly missed by many including his pets, Ember and Shadow a beautiful pair of pups that he and Sue adopted as well as Bum their cat. Ron was a 1982 graduate of Canton Area High School. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 303, a social member of VFW Post 714 both of Canton, a social member of the Morris Run American Legion Post 167 and a member for many years of the Canton Moose Lodge No. 429. Ron worked at Canton Manufacturing until their closure when he and Sue moved to Hallstead, PA area to continue working for the company in their Kirkwood facility Felchar Manufacturing. In addition to his parents, Ron was predeceased by a brother, Terrance Miller and a nephew, Terry Spencer. ![]() Larry C. Dunbar, 76, Canton, PA passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on April 15, 2017. He was at home surrounded by his family as he rejoined his childhood sweetheart in Heaven. Larry was born on November 30, 1940, at the family homestead in Ward Township, Canton, PA. He was the eldest of three children in the family of the late Maxwell T. and Lealtha “Sally” (Woodward) Dunbar. On November 5, 1960, he married the love of his life, MaryLou Wesneski. Together they were blessed with 41 years together until her death in September 2001. Larry was a devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather, and “Poppy.” He was always available with advice, usually adding in one of his famous idioms. Although, he was very strong-willed and determined he was also a generous man and usually always had a sort of crooked smile on his face. He possessed an extremely strong work ethic all of his life. He began work at the young age of nine, when he was a live-in farm hand for Russell Anderson. He was always an outdoors kind of man and extremely knowledgeable about all species of trees. Through the years, he worked various jobs dealing with wood including skidding logs with a horse named Fred and later as a log truck driver for Cummings Lumber. He also worked for Lycoming Construction, in which he had a small hand in the formation of Route 15 in Steam Valley. ![]() Robena Page Moore, 88, longtime Canton and Ogdensburg, PA resident passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 14, 2017, at Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital’s Skilled Nursing Unit. Robena Mae was born August 10, 1928 in Leolyn, PA, a daughter of the late Paul Sr. and Dorothy (Hindmarsh) Roby. In earlier years, she was affectionately known as “Red” and later as “Bena”. She was a member of the former First Baptist Church of Canton (Lighthouse of Faith). Robena’s love for family and devoted care of her home were the most important things in her life. She will be remembered as a neighborly, friendly and social lady who was blessed with many friends. She also was very handy and could fix about anything, a talent she acquired from her father. Robena enjoyed many interests, but favorite hobbies included tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, riding bike and reading. ![]() On Monday, April 10th, 2017, lifelong Roaring Branch resident Marguerite Mae (Stickler) Leonard passed away quietly at the Sherwood Retirement and Personal Care Home in Canton. She was 98 years of age. Born January 26th, 1919 in Roaring Branch, she was the daughter of Ray and Nina (Bunn) Stickler. Marguerite was a graduate of Canton High School, Class of 1936, and attended Mansfield State College. She was the widow of the late Leslie S. Leonard, with whom she raised four children and shared 63 years until his passing in 2001. In addition to being a mother and home maker, Mrs. Leonard served her community as she pursued a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 37 years, all of which was spent at Troy Community Hospital. She was an avid reader as well as a baseball and football fan. She was known for her peanut butter fudge which she always made for the annual bazaar at the Newelltown United Methodist Church, as well as the beautiful afghans she crocheted. Mrs. Leonard further displayed her generosity by knitting caps for newborns, making quilts for her children and grandchildren, making granny squared ponchos for their first day of school and knitting hats and mittens for the children in the Head Start program. She is survived by her four children, Allyn (& Ada) Leonard of Roaring Branch, Byron (& Sylvia) Leonard of Wellsboro, June (& David) Hottenstein of New Albany and Thomas (& Sue) Leonard of Columbia Cross Roads, 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, special friends Patty and Linette Baker and Eleanor Wooster, and her cocker spaniel, Cookie. In addition to her husband, Leslie, she was preceded in death by her brother, Byron Stickler and sisters Margaret and Marcella Stickler. The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude to Karen Sherwood and her staff for the kind, loving care they provided for Marguerite. Knights, 66, Troy PA, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017. Howard was born June 17, 1950 in Troy to A. LaRue and Alma G. (Munsey) Knights. He graduated Troy High School in 1968. He served his country in the US Army as a Heavy Equipment Operator.
He was employed by various Trucking Companies until his retirement. Mr. Knights was a member of the Troy Masonic Lodge #306, Legion Riders Post 49 Troy PA, and the American Legion Post #135, Warren PA. He enjoyed Motorcycling, NASCAR, visiting casinos, traveling and playing golf. Howard is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Tammi and Lonnie Cersoli and their two children, Trenton and Kendyl of Millerton; sister, Virginia (Robert) Jordan; step children Barb (Albert) Martin, Brenda (William) Sullivan, and Nan (Richard) Smith; several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jones, 89, of Troy, PA, passed away peacefully, April 8, 2017 at home. Jean was born in Dunmore, PA on February 7, 1928, the daughter of the late Theodore and Jennie (Gromlich) Compton. She and Donald A. Jones were married on February 21, 1948 in Scranton, PA and just recently celebrated 69 years together. Jean was previously employed at the Clarks Summit State Hospital as a telephone operator, and during WWII worked as an operator. Jean also owned JLJ Company, in Troy, PA, which distributed advertising materials. Jean enjoyed playing bridge, collecting dolls, and traveling with her husband, Don. She was an avid bowler and could always be found baking and cooking for her family who she loved and adored, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include husband, Donald A. Robert was born May 29, 1943 in Elmira, the son of Lyle A. and Frances M. Scott Satterlee. He had worked as a machine operator at Goulds Pumps, for many years, until he retired. Robert enjoyed his motorcycle and old cars. He is survived by son, Robert (Lorraine) Satterlee, Jr., Scottsboro, AL; daughters, Lynette (Chris Staudt) Bristol, Troy, Sandra (Les Coles) Satterlee of Oklahoma and BobbiJo Lynn (Jeremy) Howard, Bono, AK; eight grandchildren; brothers, Nathan (Diane) Lee and Billy (Jolee) Lee; sisters, Cathy (Rick) Camanchio, Ruth Lee, Audrey (Stan) Folk, Arlene Myers, Bea (Jack) Martin, Betty Henninger, Minnie Lee, Peggy Hubler and Janis (Doug) Wilcox; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Linda LaBrado. Born August 25, 1953 in Williamsport, William Raymond was one of 13 children of the late Francis and V. Elfreda (Snell) McCarty. He was a 1971 graduate of Sullivan County High School. On May 18, 1996, Bill married the love of his life in Shunk, the former Catherine Mix (affectionally known to Bill as “Cookie”). They shared 21 years of marriage and raised five children. Bill was employed by Formula 1 Feeds Company in New Albany for many years until his retirement in 2015. In addition to his devotion to family and home, Bill was an avid and knowledgeable outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and hiking. Surviving are: wife Catherine at home; children; Stacia (and Tom) Politsky, Kresgeville, PA, Danielle (and Jeff) Manahan, New Albany, William F. (and Jody) McCarty, Shunk, Misty (and Justin) Cott, Blacklick, OH, Patrick (and Chrissy) McCarty, Troy; 11 grandchildren; two brothers and seven sisters; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and very dear friends, Randy and Peggy Bagley, Zane and Becky Bagley all of Shunk.
Besides his parents, William was predeceased by a sister and two brothers. A celebration of Bill’s life and a time of sharing memories will be held at a later date. Burial will be private.
