Dimp was born Nov. 5, 1929 in East Rochester N.Y., daughter of Cecil and Anna Draper. She graduated from East Rochester High School in 1947 and met the love of her life, Ed Spencer, while working at Saxtons Department Store. They were married July 16, 1949 and moved a lot, Ed ministering to many Christian Churches/Churches of Christ and Dimp working as a LPN for almost 20 years. A life-long artist, student and music lover, Dimp had a delightful exuberance for life.
Winterville, nicknamed “Dimp” for her childhood dimples, Beverly Spencer went to be with Jesus and her beloved husband, Ed Spencer, on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018. After a day of miracles and family, Dimp passed away peacefully at Vidant InPatient Hospice of Greenville N.C. In dying as in life, she faithfully served her Lord Jesus Christ glorifying God and blessing many others.

On Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, lifelong Grover resident Alvah Lamar Avery went home to be with the Lord while at Williamsport Hospital. He was 77 years of age. Born in Grover Aug. 15, 1941, he was the son of Gerald D. Avery Sr., and Lenora Mae (Morgan) Avery. For most of his working life he was a machinist, and was a retiree of the Parker-Hannifin corporation. On July 2, 1960 he married the former Barbara Leonard, and together they raised three children and shared 58 years. Alvah was a man strong in his faith, and was an active member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Grover where he also sang in the Men’s Quartette.
He was a loving and caring husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. Many people also knew him by his other identity, that of Santa Claus, a role he played at special events around his community. He loved it when the kids addressed him as “Santa.” He loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed golf, camping, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed riding his scooter up and down the streets of Grover. Kenneth Carnwright, 70, well-known Canton resident, peacefully passed away on Thursday evening, Dec. 13, 2018 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
Born Oct. 22, 1948 in Sayre, Pa., Ken was the son of the late Phillip and Zilpha (Kipp) Carnwright. He graduated from Canton High School with the class of 1966 and continued his education at the former Williamsport Area Community College earning an Associate’s degree in Heavy Equipment Operations. On July 12, 1970, Ken married the former Marcia Jenkins in Roseville, Pa. Kenny possessed a strong work ethic all his life and was a gifted heavy equipment operator. In 1972, he began his career in excavating, later establishing Carnwright’s Excavating Company. He saw to its operations for many years until his retirement when handing the family business down to his daughter and son-in- law. Virginia L. Morse, 92, of Towanda, Pa., formerly of Leroy Township, passed away Thursday evening Dec. 13, 2018 at Towanda Memorial‘s Skilled Nursing Unit.
Born in Canton, Pa. on May 1, 1926, Virginia “Gin” Palmer was a daughter of the late Paul and Edith (Brooks) Palmer. Love and support for family, home and friends always came first in Virginia’s life. Gin was married to the late Delancey Morse, Jr. She was a hard worker and enjoyed the life of a busy farm wife. Virginia loved all animals, especially horses and was a knowledgeable equestrian. She also grew abundant vegetable gardens and enjoyed canning, sewing and quilting. ![]() Ivan Lutz, 74, of Towanda, Pa. formerly of Spring City, Pa., passed away on Thursday morning, Dec. 13, 2018 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Ivan Clayton Lutz was born July 8, 1944 in Towanda, Pa., a son of the late Elmer and Olive (Quick) Lutz. After graduating from Troy High School in 1962, he served our country during the Vietnam War as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. On July 17,1970, Ivan married the former Elizabeth “Betty” Lytle in Graterford, Pa. Ivan enjoyed his career’s work in the construction trades and was an accomplished stone mason and brick layer. He loved reading and was an avid outdoorsman, especially hunting and fishing. In earlier years, Ivan was very active in 4-H with his children; participating in many shows at area fairs. Jerimy “Moe” Fiske, 43, of Monroeton, Pa. (Barclay Mountain) passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018 from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Born Apr. 20, 1975 in Sayre, Pa., Jerimy Ray, “Moe” to family and friends, was a son of Emily (Bidlack) Woodcock of Monroeton and the late Jeffery Fiske. On Aug. 21, 2010, he married the former Melissa Hibbert on Barclay Mountain. Most recently he was employed as a painter for UTLX Rail Car Company in Sayre. Moe was blessed with a compassionate nature and a great sense of humor. He shared a strong bond with his family and was known to help out anyone in need. He was a life-long outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman. He always loved times spent camping with family and friends and was a part of the “Barclay Mountain Brew Crew." Moe also was an avid rattlesnake hunter and enjoyed blueberry picking, just like his beloved grandfather. Marian Reese Lindquist, age 90, of Blossburg, wife of the late Robert Lindquist, has gone to be with her family that has gone before her on Dec. 9, 2018, while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Blossburg to the late David and Jeanette (Haddow) Reese. She graduated in 1946 from the former Blossburg High School. She was employed over 40 years by Ward Manufacturing as an office employee. She had been a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, Blossburg also lifelong member of Arnot Sportsman Club, Hillside Rod and Gun and, Veterans of Foreign Wars Supreme Sacrifice Post #8730, Auxiliary. She was also auxiliary member of William B. Wilson American Legion Post#572, Blossburg and Theodore Roosevelt American Legion Post#167, Morris Run. Frances Elaine June (Perry) Carter, 83 of West Burlington, Pa., passed away on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018 at the Bradford County Manor surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of the late Mark Taylor Carter, Sr. who passed away on Oct. 11, 2008. The couple married in 1963 and had over 45 happy years together.
Fran was born on June 21, 1935 in Amherst, N.Y., daughter of the late William Perry and Eleanor Lowenstein. For several years Fran was a salesperson at Sears until her retirement in 2008. She attended East Troy Baptist Church, enjoyed cooking and canning, sewing, and playing the lottery. To her, family was everything, especially her grandchildren, and she looked forward to family gatherings and holidays. ![]() Paul H. Towner, 88, formerly of Enola, Pa., passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, just five days short of his 89 birthday, surrounded by his loving family at the home of his son, LeRoy Towner, in Lucinda. Born in Canton, Pa. on Dec. 13, 1929, he was the son of the late Thomas A. and Ethel Pardoe Towner. Paul was a graduate of Canton High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a delivery driver working for various companies in his lifetime, from Elmira, Tobacco, Vigor-Tone Ag Products, and even furniture store delivery. Paul loved bluegrass music and all things old. He enjoyed wood-working, crossword puzzles, silverware crafting, and tinkering. Paul is survived by his two children, Debra Ameigh of Peoria, Ariz. and LeRoy Towner and his wife Jan of Lucinda, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a niece, Sandra Hutchison, and his special friend, Shirley Preston of Hornell, N.Y. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Towner and a granddaughter, Jessica. Eleanor M. Wooster, 99, long-time resident of Roaring Branch (Union Twp., Pa.) peacefully passed away on Friday morning, December 7, 2018 at the Sherwood’s Retirement & Personal Care Home in Canton.
Eleanor was born in Newelltown, Pa. on July 26, 1919. She was a daughter of the late Bert and Lulu (Saxton) McIlwain. Eleanor was a life-time member of the Newelltown Methodist Church which was established in 1873. She was proud to be the longest attending member in the church’s history, having attended for 99 years. Eleanor held many church offices and it was there she became interested in a teaching career, when taking charge of the children’s Sunday school classes. After graduating from Canton High School in 1936, Eleanor attended Mansfield State Teachers College and received a certificate after two years. She then taught at Oregon Hill Pa. until 1940 when she married her beloved husband, Carty and became a farmer’s wife. After raising two children, Eleanor went back to college and received more credits and in 1961 started teaching at the Roaring Branch School until its closure. Mrs. Wooster then went to Canton Area Elementary School and taught second grade until retiring in 1983. |
