Lester was born on May 11, 1927 in Gillett, son of the late Cola and Mae (Wright) Maynard.
Lester was also predeceased by his wife, Bertha, in 2012.
Lester retired as a truck driver for Cargill in Big Flats, NY.
Lester C. Maynard, 89, Gillett, passed away Monday, Feb. 20, 2017 at the Towanda Memorial Skilled Nursing facility.
Lester was born on May 11, 1927 in Gillett, son of the late Cola and Mae (Wright) Maynard. Lester was also predeceased by his wife, Bertha, in 2012. Lester retired as a truck driver for Cargill in Big Flats, NY. Edward “Mike” Austin, 91, of Troy, PA peacefully passed away at home while surrounded by loved ones on February 19, 2017. Born May 30, 1925 in Ogdensburg, PA, Edward Austin, “Ed or Mike” to family and friends was one of six children of Clarence and Emma (Watkins) Austin. He was a W.W.II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy as a Gunners Mate and was a member of Troy’s American Legion Post 49. Ed married the former Dorothy Greenough on April 5, 1947 at the Troy Baptist Church Parsonage. They were married for 69 years. The beloved patriarch of the family, his grandchildren and great grandchildren were great joys in his life. Mike was a logger all his life and worked for Cummings Lumber Co. in Troy until retiring. From a child on he had a great love and appreciation for horses, especially work horses. He owned and cared for horses into his 80’s. Ed was a member of the New York State Horse Pullers Association. In addition to his wife, Dorothy, surviving are his children; Larue (Carlene) Austin, Big Pond, Wesley Austin, Troy, Ronald (Bonnie) Austin, Columbia Cross Roads, Mickey (Barbara) Austin, Troy, Cinda Baumunk, Troy, Nadine (Tom) Furman, Big Pond, Julie (Jeff) Strope, Columbia Cross Roads; 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; sister, Edna Landon and sisters-in-law, Phyllis Austin, Canton and Shirley Kinsman, Troy; many nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends. Lee R. Crayton, 75, of West Franklin, died Friday, February 17, 2017.
Born in Towanda in 1941, Lee was the son of the late Albert and Louise Crayton. He graduated from Towanda High School in 1959 and married the love of his life, the former Bette Kier, in 1963. A lifelong resident of West Franklin, Lee loved the land, and farming it was in his blood, like generations before him. Inventive and artistic, he crafted witty solutions to everyday problems, always striving to build something better. A skilled woodworker from his youth, Lee created many beautiful keepsakes, from lamps to doll cradles, that are cherished by his family. George “Sonny” Bump, 73, of Monroeton, formerly of Canton, Passed away February 16, 2017 at home. Born December 14, 1943 in Sayre, George “Sonny” Bump was a son of the late Clifford and Lottie (Heeman) Bump. He attended Towanda Schools. Most recently George was employed as a bartender. He worked at Our Place Tavern in Monroeton and previously at Tiny Tavern and the Brick Hotel. Sonny was married to the former Viola Scott who passed away in 2010. He was a member of the LeRoy Independent Baptist Church. Sonny had a friendly, easy-going nature but he also was competitive. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed fishing, playing cards and pitching horse shoes. Surviving are his children; Daniel (Billie Jo) Barr of Towanda and Misty Bump of Troy, his stepchildren; Rose Nudd of Luthers Mills and Robert L. Scott of Niagara Falls, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, brothers and sisters; Clifford Bump of Towanda, Paul (Linda) Bump and Sherry (Joey) Vincent all of Monroeton and Marty (Dollie) Qualman of Phoenix, AZ, several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Thomas L. Woodward, "Tom" passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 in Bullhead City, Arizona.
Tom was born on January 9, 1947 in Troy, PA. His Mother was Dora Helen Luckey of Sylvania, PA, and step Father, Vernon J. Luckey. He had two older sisters; Patricia Case (John), and Mary Lou Buck (Bruce).Tom grew up in Sylvania Borough, and was in the last class of 6th graders in the one room school house there. He attended Troy High School, and graduated in 1964. Tom was a talented football player from a very young age, and was a member of the Troy High School Football and Track teams. Joyce A (Nickle) Schmidt went home to be with her husband, Gerald E Schmidt Sr., and daughter, Cynthia Kay on February 15, 2017 surrounded by family in Colorado Springs, CO. Born October 22, 1943, she married Gerald on June 17, 1961, and shared 55 years together before his death on April 22, 2016. They raised two children.
Joyce spent her early years as a stay at home raising two children until the death of Cynthia Kay Schmidt. It would be two years later that Joi-Ann was born to rekindle the parenting skills of Joyce. She enjoyed fishing in the Rehoboth Bay, and camping. She worked for the former Capitol Campus in Middletown before retiring in Millsboro, DE, working for a short time as a van driver for a nursing home. Pamela Anderson Sechrist,48, of Troy, PA passed away Tuesday morning, February 14, 2017 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Born on August 7, 1968 in Williamsport, Pamela Lynn was one of eight children of the late Virgil and Juanita (Woodward) Anderson. She was a 1986 graduate of Canton High School. On Aug. 18, 1990, Pam married Donald J. “Donnie” Sechrist in the Ogdensburg Church of Christ. She was a loving, caring natured wife, sister and friend who adored her children with all her heart and soul. To know Pam was to love her; always thinking of others, she would offer her help to anyone in need. Pam appreciated nature’s beauty and enjoyed being outdoors. She loved her old car. Her heart also went out to all animals and she was known for catering to her pets. Pam worked for Martha Lloyd Community Services for 13 years before realizing her dream of owning and operating a children’s day care center for 12 years. She also enjoyed coaching Troy’s Cheerleaders for several years. Larry R Collins went home to meet his Lord on Monday, February 13th at age 61. Larry was born September 18th, 1955 in Mesa, Arizona. He was a fifth-generation Railroad Man. Larry also held the position of Fire Chief for the Bowie Arizona Volunteer Fire Department, worked as a Paramedic for 16 years. He enjoyed NASCAR and tried his hand at racing and did well in Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado. After his retirement from 40 years with the railroad, Larry and Debra moved to Mansfield, Pennsylvania in 2013. He enjoyed spending time with family and especially his five grandchildren. He was an avid hunter, using rifle and bow, loved fishing and living the rural life in Pennsylvania. Larry is survived by his wife, Debra of Mansfield PA, his son Joshua Collins and his family in Tucson AZ, his daughter Shannon Sakers and her family in Canton PA, his sister Brenda and her family in Redding CA as well as numerous extended family members. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Carnlee and Betty Collins and his older brother Lee Collins. Richard A. Brown, 76, Canton, passed away peacefully February 11, 2017, at Bradford County Manor, Troy, surrounded by his family. Richard Allen was born April 26, 1940 in Williamsport, PA, a son of the late Chester and Agnes (Morgan) Brown. Richard was a member of the 1958 Canton High School graduating class. He married the former Joeann Kilbourn in Grover on October 1, 1959. They were blessed with 57 loving years together and raised five sons. He was employed for many years as a security guard for Masonite Corp. in Towanda until retirement. In earlier years, he worked at Canton Bellows Valvair Co. Special times for Richard were shared with family; he adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and black powder rendezvous. He also followed NASCAR and was a big Carl Edwards fan. Mr. Brown was a member of the Windfall United Methodist Church. Dolson James Porter, 73, died February 10 with his family surrounding him. He was born in Blossburg, PA to the late Addison Charles & Etta Mae McNeal Porter. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the U. S. Army. He was retired from Pinkerton & also volunteered with the fire department for 30 years. He raised his children and loved them more than life itself. Surviving are his children Cheri Cranmer (Jeff), Wendell, Estee Porter, Asheville, Chad D. Porter (Tracey), Garner, Ciara Young (Lee), Wendell; beloved grandchildren Elena, Gibby, Chad, Kaitlyn, Kristen, C.J., Ronnie, Jordan, Kayla, R.J. & precious great grandchildren Lil E, Baby Charles, Summer, Bubba & Henry as well as many cherished family members in his hometown of Canton, PA. The funeral was held at the Strickland Funeral Home, 2 Wendell, February 13. Burial followed in Greenmount Cemetery with military honors. |
