Ruth (Berry) Pierce, 96, of Springfield, PA, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Twin Oaks Personal Care Home in Granville Summit, PA.
She was the loving wife of the late Carl L. Pierce who passed away Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009. The couple married March 23, 1946 and had 63 happy years together. Ruth was born on February 2, 1925 in Berrytown, PA, daughter of the late Wesley and Grace (Allen) Berry. She and Carl were dairy farmers and also operated their own farm equipment dealership for many years. Ruth was a member of Faith Community (Wetona/Big Pond) Methodist Church and was a member of the Mt. Laurel Camping Club. She loved to travel and visited all the states in the Continental US. Ruth is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William and Elizabeth Pierce of Columbia Cross Roads; two granddaughters, Vanessa Pierce and her husband Thomas Cox of Ulster, Pa., Tricia Pierce and her companion Richard Fusare of Springfield, Pa.; two great-grandchildren, Kasey and Johnecca Fusare and Sabrina Fusare, several nieces and nephews, and special friends Wilma Young, Regina Jackson, and Marsha Martin. She was born on November 8, 2001, in Camden, NJ, the daughter of Brian and Kimberly (Roupp) Paris. Carrie’s son was the light of her life. She loved him and her little sister very much. She loved all animals, especially dogs. Carrie also enjoyed painting and drawing and was an avid traveler. She was a graduate of Wyalusing High School, Class of 2020. While in high school, Carrie was a member of the band and was very talented in that she could play multiple instruments. She was an amazing figure skater and even went to Nationals. Carrie was employed as a Waitress and enjoyed working at many different restaurants in the area. She is predeceased by her maternal grandparents Allen and Mable Roupp, paternal grandmothers Marion Paris and Dorothy Paris, maternal great-grandparents Fred and Carrie Roupp, paternal great-grandparents Rex and Mildred Paris, aunt Karen Roupp, uncles Scott Paris and George Crist, and cousins Christina Paris and Nathan Crist. (Stone) Stiles, 82, life-long resident of Canton, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021.
Dianne Bessie (named after her mother) was born September 30, 1938 to the late Dana and Bessie (Carl) Stone. On April 15, 1962, Dianne married, the love of her life, Gerald William Stiles in the former Canton Methodist Church. Together they shared 59 wonderful years of marriage and raised two children. Dianne held many memberships including; a 45-year membership with the Lady Canton Rebekah Lodge 362 and served as their former District President. She was a past Chaplain & Flag Bearer representing Canton’s local district of the Rebekah Assembly of Pennsylvania. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Patriarch Militants and was honored to receive the Declaration of Chivalry Jewel. She was a woman of faith and attended the Canton Ecumenical Parish, as well as an active member of Western Alliance EMS. Mrs. Stiles was employed by the Canton Elementary School as a teacher’s aide for ten years until her retirement. Dianne and husband Jerry, enjoyed times spent at there winter home in Fort Meade, Florida, but Canton was truly always home. Surviving are; her husband, Gerald Stiles, children; Karen (Steven) Miller of (Tannersville, PA) and Kevin (Cheryl) Stiles of Montoursville, grandchildren; Mark (Marsha) Miller of Princeton, TX and Samantha Miller of Dallas, TX, Adam Hartman of Seattle, WA and Tegan Hartman of South Williamsport, brothers; Edward Stone, special niece and nephew; Barbara (LaVerne) Spencer and Lee Stone all of Canton. Kinner of Alba passed away peacefully at Troy Community Hospital surrounded by his beloved family. He was 67 years of age.
Born June 18, 1954, he was the son of Robert and Betty (Vanderpool) Kinner. For many years David was employed as a lathe operator at the former Larimer & Norton Co. in Troy, manufacturing Louisville Slugger baseball bats. In his free time he enjoyed the role of mechanic. A regular “Mr. Fix-it,” nothing pleased him more than repairing things, be they household appliances or vehicles. He would analyze the situation and tenaciously work at making it right. He was also a big fan of Harley Davidson. Friendly and outgoing, he enjoyed his morning coffee with his good friends Dale Palmer and Marvin Spencer. He will be sadly missed by many. She was a member of Grover Church of Christ, Grover, PA. Gidget enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and loved being with people, the beach, camping, and getting a tan. Kelley, age 78, of Canton, PA, passed away suddenly at his home on Thursday, September 3, 2021. He was born on August 7, 1943, in Canton, PA, a son of the late Emmerson S. and Ruth (Bennett) Kelley. Dick attended Canton High School and enlisted in the US Army in 1961, where he was deployed to Vietnam. He received an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and other military honors. After serving his country, he was employed by the IUOE Local 832A as a heavy equipment operator and master mechanic. He then worked as a blaster for J&B Mining. He retired from Casella Waste Systems, Inc. as a general manager in 2011. Dick was active in the Canton Police Department, Ambulance Association and a life member of the Canton Fire Department and VFW, as well as a member of the Red Run Rod and Gun Club. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family at their summer camp on the mountain. Dick enjoyed campfires, picnics, Johnny Cash music (playing the spoons), ranger rides with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, fishing on his boat, hunting, snowmobiling, and indulging in never-ending projects and working in his garage. He had a love of old cars and was a devoted Ford man. Dick’s work ethic was of the highest standards and taught his children and grandchildren to follow his lead. He was a perfectionist and a meticulous man. Dick’s philosophy of life was “common sense and hard work”. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors. He will be greatly missed by his family and so many. Chapman, age 76, life-long resident of Columbia Cross Roads, (Springfield), PA was called home on September 4, 2021, following a courageous six-month battle with brain cancer. Vic was born January 18, 1945, the son of the late Ralph and Lavina (Kobbe) Chapman.
He attended the Federated Church East Smithfield, PA and was a graduate of Troy High School working the family farm during his younger years. He entered the U.S. Army in 1964, serving in Korea and was honorably discharged. He began work at Westinghouse, Corp which later became Toshiba, in Horseheads, NY retiring in 2004. His true joy in life aside from his grandchildren was working with his farm animals and spending hours on his tractor in the fields, woods and his cabin. Vic’s memberships included the East Smithfield Federated Church and the V.F.W. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, woodworker and gentleman farmer. He is survived by his adoring wife Patsy (Burbage) Chapman, daughter, Lisa Chapman and Kevin Schucker of Sylvania, PA, son Rodney (Shannon) Chapman of Florida, daughters, Lori Antonson of Chatham, NY, Lisa Scheepsma of Elmira, NY, beloved sister, Joyce (Chapman) Bradford of Mainesburg, PA, brothers, Harry Dean Chapman of Cobleskill, NY, John (Mary Jane) Chapman of Springfield, PA, and sister-in-law Jane Chapman, his loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends. Van Noy, 71, beloved husband of Sally (Tears) Van Noy, of Granville Summit, Pennsylvania, entered heaven on Saturday, September 11, 2021, while surrounded by his loving family at home. Dale was delivered by Dr. L. W. Brown at Troy Hospital on January 9, 1950, to Carlyle “Pogie” and Eloise (May) Van Noy. He was a 1967 graduate of Troy High School where he was an active member of the FFA program. From a very young age, Dale worked on numerous dairy farms throughout the surrounding communities. Some of his favorite farming memories were on the farms of Jim and Janet Kelley, Lou and Mae Kendall and Dick and Georgia Jenkins. He attended trade school in Sayre, PA for the machinist trade. In November of 1970, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served until receiving a medical, honorary discharge in 1971. He returned home to work at Cummings Lumber Company as a truck driver until 1973 when he became an owner/operator with his own truck. He chose to change his career path in 1977 so he could be home with his family. At that time, Dale and Sally purchased their own farm in Windfall, PA. They had a herd of Holsteins that they later replaced with a herd of Jerseys, which were his favorites. During this time, Dale also “hauled kids” on the bus to Troy School District. While continuing to operate the family farm, Dale and Sally started Van Noy Trucking. Van Noy Trucking hauled milk for Pelton Trucking Company and hauled freight for Al’s Leasing and other brokers. After selling their herd and trucking company, Dale drove truck for several construction contractors. Then in 2003, Dale chose to go back on the road driving truck for AERO Transport. His love of his grandchildren brought him back off the road. He was employed by Mansfield Crane Inc. where he hauled water for the oil and gas industry. His final employer before retirement in 2014, was Pelton Trucking Company. He attended the Troy Baptist Church in recent years. Besides his family and special friends, Dale’s passion was pulling tractors and raising beef cattle. He would share his knowledge and experiences with fellow competitors to help them succeed at pulling. Dale always had the biggest smile on his face while attending games and events of his children and grandchildren. He was a great supporter of the Troy Trojans, Canton Warriors and Central Columbia Bluejays. He was a true family man. Those who will carry on his strong love for family are his wife Sally of 49 years, who he married on July 1, 1972; son, Rodney and wife Danielle and their children Ethan and Ella of Troy, PA; daughter, Rae Ann Crispell and husband Brent and their daughter Lily of Bloomsburg, PA; son Ryan and wife Janelle and their children Cailyn, Brenna and Drake of Canton, PA. Dale had a significant influence on the lives of many, especially his nephew Brett Grace, niece Cindy Rathbun, and nephew Bradley Van Noy. Dale is also survived by his siblings, Kay Lorraine Van Noy of Troy, PA, and Jerry (JoAnne) Van Noy of Canton, PA. He has a special place in the hearts of many nieces and nephews. He had special friendships with Jeff and Jeannie Estep of Granville Summit, PA and their family, and tractor pulling buddies Evan Adams and Gracie Adams of Ulster, PA. Those who left before him were his parents and brother Wendell Van Noy (1974), his father in-law and mother in-law Louis and Nellie (Williams) Tears, brother-in-law, Carol Tears; sister in-law and brother-in-law Sue (Tears) Kinkead and her husband Ken. In 1996, Dale lost a special buddy, Bono McDonald who was only age 17. Family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 pm Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Maple Ridge at Red Maple Ranch, 211 Hanks Rd., Troy, PA 16947. A memorial service will immediately follow at 3:00 pm with special friend Allen Westerbaan officiating. The family requests that you wear masks while attending. Anita was born on February 12, 1929, and was the daughter of Arian (Kinch) and Lyle Page of Troy, PA. She graduated from Troy High School, class of 1947. Anita was the high school sweetheart of Duane M. Fay, and they married on April 23, 1949. Duane and Anita were married for 62 years and blessed with five children. Anita and Duane were lifelong partners of Fay’s Maple Products. She was a member of Big Pond Methodist Church (FCUM) where she sang in the choir for many years. She served as treasurer of the church and belonged to the United Methodist Women and also the Women’s Temperance Union. She was a member of the Bradford County Republican Party where she served on the election’s committee in Ridgebury Township. She was a faithful servant of the Big Pond Lions Club helping serve many meals at their fundraiser pancake days at Fays. She participated in the women’s Wednesday PM bowling league at Terrace Lanes in Troy, PA. Anita was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend who loved and served her community well. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her and worked beside her in the community. Survivors include two sisters, Mary Lou Packard, and Joan Crandle. She is survived by five children, Brenda L. (Dale) Wooster of Troy, PA, Gregory L. (Mary) Fay of Columbia Cross Roads, PA, Douglas D. (Cindy) Fay of Columbia Cross Roads, PA, Maureen (David) Hanson of Granbury, TX, and Diana J. (Mark) Adams of Granbury, TX. Grandchildren include Alison Wooster, Kyle Wooster, Aaron Wooster; Michelle (Zane) Morgan, Curtis (Stephanie) Fay, Jeffrey Fay (Christy); Arian (Chris) Monasmith, Kevin (Kelsey) Fay, David Fay; Brock (Rachael) Nichols, Jeremy (Tasha) Nichols, Grant Hanson; Jared (April) Adams, Haley (Bruce) Leonard, Cory (Kelsey) Adams.
