Cynthia “Cindy” Dean, 60, (beloved husband of Richard Dean Sr.) of Columbia Cross Roads, Pa., died Saturday evening, August 3, 2019 at the Guthrie Troy Community Hospital.

His parents, Edith and Paul Palmer, passed away in 1990. He graduated from Canton High School in 1953 and joined the Army, as a proud member of the 82nd Airborne division, jumping as a paratrooper. He had several hundred recorded jumps from an airplane, not to the surprise of any of us! Dean was a proud veteran and loved his country. He came back to the states and went to Williamsport Area Community College on the GI bill and soon started his own business. He was the owner and CEO of Palmer Industrial Coatings Inc. and celebrated 50 years in business before he retired in 2011.
Dean was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent countless hours working for and donating to local outdoor preservation groups, community projects and youth programs. He was a longtime sponsor of the John Bower Basketball League and the West End Babe Ruth Baseball League. He was a board member of the Williamsport YMCA for years and managed the project building of the Pickelner Arena at the YMCA. Dean was a member of the former Antlers Club in Williamsport, Pa. and the Wheel Inn in Ralston, Pa. He was a past officer and President of the Newberry Lions Club. Along with being a published author for Safari Magazine, he was a member of the Wild Sheep Federation, and the Boone and Crockett club. He has several record trophies on record. Fred E. Mundrick Sr., 87, of Sayre, Pa., formerly of Canton, passed away July 28, 2019, peacefully at his home while surrounded by his loving family. Fred was born May 16, 1932, in Cascade Township, Lycoming County, Pa., the first born and the last child to pass away from the late Emerson and Emma (Wettlaufer) Mundrick. On June 15, 1956 he married the former Louise Morgan at the United Methodist Church in Ralston. In his early years, Fred worked as a logger with his father and later with several other area logging companies. He was also employed at Mint Chevrolet in Sayre and shortly afterward Canton’s McCallum Manor in maintenance for 15 years until retirement in 2000. Fred was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and also enjoyed bowling and softball. Fred loved the outdoors especially picking huckleberries and looked forward to hunting and fishing at County Bridge on Armenia Mountain. He always came home from his adventures with many stories to tell and was known for his keen sense of humor.
Mary Louise Chilson Patton, 68, of 4942 Fairview Road, Towanda, West Burlington Township, passed away Thursday evening, June 27, 2019 at the Bradford County Manor in W. Burlington Township.Mary was born June 17, 1951, at home in Towanda Township, the daughter of Robert E. Chilson and MaryB. Bailey Chilson. Mary was
a 1969 graduate of Towanda High School and in early years was employed by the Crystal Springs Motel and the Fireplace Restaurant inTowanda. She was later employed by Kodak in Rochester, N.Y., for 10 years, HADCO “Sanmina” in Owego, N.Y., for 8 years, and served as a caregiver for Futures Community Support Services in Towanda for 15 years. Mary enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, reading and crocheting. Michael Paul Donovan, 31, of Joshua, TX, formerly of New Cumberland, died Friday, July 26, 2019, at his family home.
He was a Project Manager for Fast Action Restoration, Joshua, TX. He was a 2007 graduate of Canton Area High School, Canton, PA, where he was an accomplished football player, but his real passion was baseball where he excelled in many different positions. Michael liked all sports and was a lifelong Phillies and Eagles fan. After moving to Texas, he enjoyed attending Texas Rangers games with his brother/best friend, Joe, and it’s here he leaves behind many treasure memories. Born on February 19, 1988, in Harrisburg, he was the son of Mark and Nancy McCollum of New Cumberland, and Paul and Regina Donovan of Jefferson Township, PA In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Joseph M. Donovan of Joshua, TX; a sister, Rose K. Donovan of Arlington, TX; maternal grandmother, Ruth B. Fulton of Easton, MD; Paternal grandmother, Dawn A. McCollum of New Cumberland; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. He was 38 years of age. Born in Sayre September 18, 1980, he was the son of the late Robert W Lawson, Jr and Rosemary (Talada) Lawson. Bobby attended the Canton Area schools where he played Junior High football, and during high school served as manager of the football and basketball teams. He graduated Canton Area High School with the class of 2000. Bobby also played baseball for 15 years as part of the Challenger League. He enjoyed many special field trips to New York City and was awarded several ribbons in the Special Olympics. Bobby was also an avid bowler and enjoyed the fellowship of his team mates at the Martha Lloyd School. He also enjoyed fishing and watching NASCAR with his uncle. Most importantly, Bobby knew his Savior. He was a part of the Christian fellowship at Calvary Alliance Chapel just north of Canton, and was always ready to help with Vacation Bible School, or in any other capacity.

Herb was born in Canton, Pennsylvania on October 23, 1928. He was predeceased by his mother, Laura Smouther, favorite aunt, Lillian Ward and brother, Roger Smouther both of Canton; his first wife of 35 years Winnifred (Seeley) Smouther of Elmira; and a son Stephen Herbert Smouther of Columbus, Ohio. Herb is survived by his second wife, Marilyn (Fortenberry) Smouther of Casar, NC; a son Gordon W. Smouther and daughter-in-law Linda L. Smouther of Trenton, NJ; a grandson, Bryan Smouther of Melbourne, FL; a granddaughter, Bethany Jackson of Granite Bay, CA; two great grandsons; and Anne (Seeley) Smouther, wife of Roger. Herb was a graduate of Canton High School in 1946 where he was class president and a member of the varsity baseball, football and PA state champion basketball team. Following his marriage to Winnifred Seeley, he worked for a short while at the Swayze Box Company in Canton and then moved to Elmira, NY where he was employed by Ward La France Firetruck Company in the Sales Department. While in Elmira, he was an active coach of youth baseball, basketball and soccer in Southport. Herb and Winnifred moved to Cape Coral, FL in 1980 where Winnifred passed away two years later. Herb kept in close touch with his teammates from the various athletic teams. They met most years in Canton and attended the annual high school alumni dinner. Marilyn and Herb were married in December, 1983 and after short periods in Florida and Columbia, SC, they settled in the Casar, NC area. Herb and Marilyn were well known in the area for Mom’s Cookies which were widely distributed to local convenience stores Funeral services will be held on July 25 under the direction of Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home, 846 E. Stagecoach Trail, Falston, NC. Interment will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira, NY on Monday July 29 where there will be a brief gravesite service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Donations in remembrance of Herb can be made to the Huntington Disease Society at www.Indiana.hdsa.org |
