He was married to the former Cynthia Hartzig, with whom he raised three sons. Donnie enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as tinkering with machines and engines. He was an outgoing, friendly man who was always ready and willing to help anyone in need, more especially if it concerned car trouble. He was an animal lover in general and enjoyed the loyal companionship of his canine buddy, Chevy.
On the morning of Sunday, May 12, 2019, Canton resident Donald E. Preston. Sr. passed away unexpectedly at his residence. He was 64 years of age. Born Oct. 17, 1954 in Sayre he was the son of Marshall D. Preston, Sr., and Opal (Grabb) Preston.

Sue Anne Keiffer, 79 of Canton, Pa., formerly of Dryden, N.Y. passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 12, 2019, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa.
Sue Anne was born in Midland, Pa. on Aug. 5, 1939 to the late Wellington “Tam” and Virginia (Hall) Graham. On June 27, 1959 she married the love of her life, Edward “Eddie” Keiffer in the St. John’s Methodist Church in Grover, sharing 60 wonderful years together. Upon graduating from Canton Area High School, class of 1958, Sue was employed for several years by George Jr. Republic Private School in Freeville, N.Y. and later by Dr. Donlick as a medical assistant in Groton, N.Y. for 15 years. Sue’s biggest accomplishment in her life was her family, especially her three daughters. She was lovingly known as the family’s “mama bear.” Sue enjoyed time spent with her family, picnics at any time of the year and the hunting cabin in Roaring Branch. She had a huge love of all animals and always hoped that nobody was successful in their hunt at camp. Sue was an avid golfer, once earning a hole in one. Sue and Eddie always looked forward to traveling to Alexandria Bay on the Saint Lawrence River. She was also very proud of her husband Eddie’s football history at Canton High and Syracuse University. Sue was a woman of the Christian Faith and loved the lord. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by an infant son, Klarck. On May 11, 2019 Canton resident, Linda Jean (Tunnicliff) Wood, passed away peacefully at Troy Community Hospital. She was 59 years of age. Born June 27, 1959 in Sayre, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Tunnicliff and Virginia (Johnston) Tunnicliff. By profession Linda was a Certified Nurse's Aid and worked at various care facilities in Northern Pennsylvania, including Stringham's Personal Care Home in Bentley Creek, Allied Services in Scranton, Guthrie Home Care and Futures.
She is survived by her mother, Virginia Collins, daughter Charlene (& Dustin) Castle, sister Diane Muzinski, brother Dean Tunnicliff and granddaughter Hazel Castle. She was preceded in death by her father Joseph Tunnicliff and daughter Danielle Vandervere. She was born on January 27, 1916 in Rome, Pa., the daughter of Pearl I. Lent and Gertrude (Collingwood) Lent. Gwladys was the wife of the late Dewey Chubb who died in 1973 and the late Russell Scott who died in 1987. She graduated with a Secretarial Degree from the Ballard School in New York. Gwladys was employed at the Martha Lloyd School for 31 years. She was active in the Rebekahs and a lifetime member of the Eastern Star. She was also a counselor with Stephen Ministries. Gwladys loved going to church. She would sometimes attend 3 services on one Sunday. Gwladys received the Allen F. Pierce award in 1995 in recognition of her dedicated years of service to the women of the Martha Lloyd School. In her younger years she was the secretary to “Dr. Guthrie” at Robert Packer Hospital.
Jean B. Wommer, 87, of Canton, Pa. passed away early Saturday morning May 4, 2019 at the Bradford County Manor.
Jean was born July 16, 1931 in Bristol, Pa. On Apr. 4, 1964 she married John Wommer in Elkton, Md. Jean and John moved to the Canton area in 1986 where Jean was employed by Henny Dunn Insurance Company for several years. They also owned and operated the Cold Spring Kennel in Canton where they raised hunting dogs. John preceded Jean in death on Nov. 2, 2007 following 43 years of marriage. Reading and watching TV, especially Jeopardy, were favorite pastimes. Jean was a kind likable person who was known, just to be a little stubborn at times. Surviving her are a niece, Michelle Linsenmeier, special friends Mike Kelley, Ann Kelley and Michael Landon all of Canton, special caregivers, Becky Sechrist, Tracy Quackenbush and Lori Cole, several neighbors and dear friends. On the morning of Friday, May 3, 2019 Emerson M. Welch of Troy passed away quietly at Bradford County Manor. He was 87 years of age. Born July 21, 1931 in Sayre he was the son of Horace D. and Mary Harriett (Rockwell) Welch. He graduated from Troy High School with the class of 1949. Emerson grew up on a farm and always was a farmer at heart, if not in practice. He was employed for many years as a truck driver with AGWAY, delivering fuel to farms throughout the area. This afforded him the opportunity to stay close to the local farming community. On June 10, 1951 he married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Garrison, and together they raised five children and would have celebrated their 68th anniversary next month. Emerson was a warm, friendly, outgoing man who made friends readily. He enjoyed camping, fishing and gardening. He always put his family first, but also donated his time as a coach with the Springfield Little League. He was a kind man who walked through life wearing a smile and displaying a positive attitude.
Donna (Bryington) McIlwain of Killeen, Texas went to be with the Lord on 2 May 2019.
Donna McIlwain was born on 6 May 1954 in Blossburg, Pa to the late John (Jack) and Jessie Bryington. On 22 July 1978 Donna married the love of her life, Joseph McIlwain. They shared nearly 41 wonderful years and raised two children. She was a wonderful house wife while her husband was in the Army. Upon his retirement she started teaching at various private Christian schools. She also mentored young wives new to the Military over the issues that comes with Military life. She also liked to travel with her best friend. Together they have seen fourty nine of the fifty states, as well as their travels abroad to Ireland, England, Wales, and Scotland, as well as taking a cruise to the Bahamas. She went to her home town of Canton, PA every summer to beat the heat of Texas. She was active in cancer programs. Donna was predeceased by her parents, sister Glenda Thompson, her twin brother Daniel Bryington. Donna is survied by her husband Joseph McIlwain of Killeen, Texas, daugher Jennifer (Michael) Young of Norfolk Virgina, son Jeremy (Esther) McIlwain of Killeen, Texas. Sister Doris (Dale) Terry of Elmira, NY, sister Linda Johnson of Elmira NY, brother Paul (Carolynn) Bryington of Gillett Pa, brother John (Gail) Bryington of Roaring Branch, Pa. In lieu of flowers the family asks you to make a donation to a cancer fund of your choice in Donna's name. Memorial service will be held at Ellenton Mountain Church on July 27, at 2 p.m. Family gathering will be held after the service. Jean M. (Hewitt) Kendall, Age 94, formerly of Redington Avenue Troy, Pa. passed away at Twin Oaks Personal Care Home on Thursday, May 2, 2019. Jean was born Jan. 21, 1925 in Troy daughter of the late Glenn M. and Lucelia (Fay) Hewitt and attended Troy High School. She and Merle L. Kendall were married Mar. 15, 1941 and celebrated 64 years together prior to his passing in 2005. Jean worked at the Bradford County Manor in the kitchen and later was a childcare provider at Little Learners Nursery School. She enjoyed camping and adored her loving family.
Survivors include a son David Kendall of Gillett, daughters, Judith Dewey and Linda Besley both of Columbia Cross Roads, a brother, John Hewitt of El Cajon, Calif., numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.
