Patricia A. Davison, widow of Bill Davison, passed away on Mar. 5, 2019 surrounded by her family. Formerly a resident of Canton Borough she was living at her son and daughter-in-law's home in LeRoy Township at the time of her passing. Pat, as she liked to be called, was a spunky woman with a “tell-it-like-it-is” attitude. She cherished her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Born Aug. 3, 1944 in Sayre, Pa., she was the daughter of Dean (& Mida) Landon. She was a graduate of Canton High School, Class of 1964. Following graduation pat worked at many jobs including Canford's, Eureka, Farmsworth Cookie Factory, Darien Lake and miscellaneous waitress positions. Pat married Bill Davison at Friendship, N.Y. on Aug. 20, 1994. They were happily married for ten years until Bill's passing.
Robert Henry “Bob” Hunsicker, 52 of Canton, Pa., (Armenia Township) passed away unexpectedly at the Guthrie Troy Community Hospital on Mar. 4, 2019. Bob was born June 20, 1966 in Quakertown, Pa., to the late Raymond Hunsicker, his mother, Laurene (Stoneback) Hunsicker of the Bradford County Manor and his biological father, Robert Wampole of Florida.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, camping, riding his Harley and spending time on his land in Armenia Township. He was a very social person and always looked forward to time spent with family, especially his grandchildren. He also loved watching old western movies and spending time with his special canine friend, Two Sox. Naomi Jean Pepper, 81, of Monroeton, Pa. (Franklin Township) passed away peacefully on Mar. 3, 2019 at home, while surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Towanda, Pa. on April 13, 1937, Naomi was the daughter of the late Frederick and Florence (Kirkendall) Kuhnle. She was a graduate of Towanda High School, class of 1954. On December 20, 1963 she married Duane Pepper in the Mountain Lake United Methodist Church, they shared 55 wonderful years together. Naomi enjoyed reading, bird watching, working in her beautiful flower gardens and her many feline friends. In earlier years, she assisted with the daily operations of the Pepper’s Dairy. Naomi later worked as a Bookkeeper/Notary for Pepper’s Auto Body Shop, R&R Lawrence Trucking, Ferrario’s Auto Dealership and Moore’s Auto both in Wysox until her retirement. She served as a former secretary/treasurer at Iona Grange in Fanklindale and was a member of the former Mountain Lake United Methodist Church. Elizabeth Lynne (VanDyke) Hertel, 84, of Canton, Pa., passed away at home on Mar. 3, 2019. Arrangements will be announced by Pepper Funeral Home & Cremation Facility in Canton when complete.
Elizabeth Lynne Hertel passed away at home on Mar. 3, 2019. Lynne was born 1934 in East Canton, Pa. to the late Davis and Myrtle (Landon) Van Dyke.
She graduated from Canton High School in 1952 and then from East Stroudsburg State Teachers College with a BS in Physical Education. From there Lynne went on to teach special needs children how to swim, a difficult yet rewarding job. In 1956 Lynne married Ted Hertel of Ralston, Pa., and for the next 20 years they raised three sons in Big Flats N.Y. In the late 1980s Lynne moved back to Canton Pa. to work the apple orchard with her father. She built a life for herself caring for the people and the land she loved. William J. Spiak, 85, of Columbia Cross Roads, Pa., passed away on Saturday, Mar. 2, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family, friends and loved ones. He was born on Jan. 30, 1934 in Elmira, N.Y., son of the late William B. and Gladys (Wood) Spiak. William was employed by Shulmans & Sons then later Ballard Inc. where he enjoyed traveling and seeing many states until his retirement.
Mervin D. "Reelman" Bortner, III, 57, of Troy, PA, passed away on Friday, Mar. 1, 2019 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. He was the loving husband of Priscilla L. (Cole) Bortner. The couple married June 5, 1982 and had 36 happy years together.
Mervin was born on Nov. 26, 1961 in Harrisburg, Pa., son of the late Jane E. “Tick” (Emlet) Bortner and Mervin D. Bortner, Jr. of Manheim, Pa. He worked in the warehouse and in plastic molding at Canton Manufacturing and was United Methodist by faith. Mervin was an avid fisherman and hunter but his true passion was collecting antique fishing reels and lures. He belonged to the Old Reels Collectors Association (O.R.C.A.) and the National Fishing Lure Collectors Club (N.F.L.C.C.). When my brother asked me to write my nephew, Killian’s obituary, I decided to let you know who Killian Jacob Frey (my brat) really was. He was born Nov. 1, 1995 in Towanda and passed away Feb. 21, 2019. Killian was so full of life. He loved spending time with his son, Keyan Charles Frey, his family (huge family) and friends.
His parents are his father, Neveda (Bert) Frey and his mother, Brooke (Owen) Clark. His step mother is Joyce Motts-Seeley and his step father is Travis Clark. He was so loved by his grandparents, John and Waneta Frey, and Allen and Pam Owen. He loved spending time with his brothers and sisters: Dakota (Frey) Esaias, Janel Staton, Shaun Withey, Angel Seeley, Hailey Seeley, Damien Seeley, NevedaLynn Frey and Bradley Ryan Strong. In a very short time Killian fell for a special girl, Samantha Williams. Killian holds a special place in the hearts of his Uncle Cheyenne (Meleney) Frey, and, of course, me, his Aunt Sonya (Josh) Metzger and his Uncle Glen Owen and his Aunt Laney and Timmy Hickock. He loved to pick on his cousins (Siarra, Tabitha, Aubrey and Christian). Sometimes he acted just like a kid, which is who he was at heart --a big kid. Killian had so many special friends. Leo E. Shedden, 76 of Troy, Pa., passed away at home on Sunday morning Feb. 24, 2019 while surrounded by his loving family following a long courageous battle with lung cancer. Leo Earl was born Oct. 20, 1942 in Canton, Pa. and was a son of the late Lial and Norma (Foust) Shedden.
Leo was a 1960 graduate of Troy High School. After graduating he worked on his family’s dairy farm and eventually went on to be self-employed as a carpenter until his retirement in 2013. He was always known to be a “jack of all trades” and an avid outdoorsman. He was a dedicated hunter and trapper and took eight black bears in his lifetime. Leo also enjoyed fishing and digging ginseng. On Apr. 26, 1976 he married the former Sandra Mattocks in Troy, Pa., together sharing 42 years of loving marriage. Shirley Ann Gamber, 78, of East Point, Pa. died peacefully on Feb. 24, 2019.
Born in Anneville, Pa., on Dec. 8, 1940, Shirley was the daughter of the late John and Emma Round. On Sept. 28, 1957 she married Stewart Gamber, they shared 45 wonderful years together before his passing in 2002. Shirley was a very talented baker, always trying new recipes. She will be remembered for her famous chocolate covered cherries. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, puzzles and playing “pickle ball.” She was a member of the Arnot Sportsman’s Club, the Liberty VFW and a former member of the Blossburg American Legion. Shirley participated in the Women in the Wild at Mt. Pisgah State Park and was active at the East Point United Methodist Church. Shirley was always known as the CEO of the Gamber household and her family knew that “Mom was right and right she’ll always be!” |
