Ken was born on October 10, 1928 in Troy, son of the late Ray M. and Elsie (McKean) Ballard. He was a 1946 graduate of Troy High School and was a member of the West Burlington United Methodist Church since 1945. After high school Ken was a carpenter by trade and in 1966 because an appliance repair technician for Sears in Horseheads, NY until his retirement in 1991. Ken was a member of the National Law Enforcement Officers Association, AARP, North Penn AAA, and the Audubon Society. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, was a member of the NRA, and was a member of Cold Spring Hunting Camp in Leroy.
Kenneth R. Ballard, 88, West Burlington Township, passed away on December 14, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Dorothy M. “Dot” (Kinch) Ballard who passed away February 12, 2005. The couple married June 24, 1950 and had 54 happy years together.

Charles, known as Chuck, was born and raised in Canton, the son of Dorothy Dann and Charles Arthur (Art) Bullock. He graduated from Canton High in 1948, then graduated from Franklin and Marshall in 1954 with a bachelor’s degree in History. While there he joined the Air Force ROTC and graduated as a commissioned officer. Chuck attended and graduated Air Force Flight School, jet fighter class 56-b at Webb Air Force Base, TX. He flew to Air Force bases around the world, particularly Washington D.C., Japan and Korea. He loved flying and was very proud to serve his country. While stationed in Washington D.C., he attended the University of Baltimore and earned his law degree, while starting his own family of two daughters and a son. Chuck retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel. Robert (Muskrat) Borden Sr., 80, joined our Lord in heaven surrounded by his family on November, 30, 2016.
Robert was born July 7, 1936, in Yardley, PA. Bob was the son of Anna Burns Borden of Afton, NY, and Frank Borden of Yardley, PA. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sandy (Settelen) Borden; sons, Robert Jr., New York, NY, Joseph Borden, Granville Summit; daughter, Barbara Deitrick, Osage Beach, MO, daughter, Ann Borden, Granville Summit; grandchildren, Sean Deitrick, Jaymie Marth, Kelly Deitrick, Daniel Deitrick, Derrick Deitrick, Brendon Moore, Holly Moore, Amber Moore; great grandchildren. Francis L. Beeman, 77, of Binghamton, NY, formerly of Wysox, passed away Tuesday evening, November 22, 2016 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
Francis was born in Towanda, on April 2, 1939 the son of Forrest and Louise Hoag Beeman. He was a graduate of Towanda High School class of 1957 and Penn State University in 1961. Francis completed graduate work at Mansfield University. He began his career in teaching at Sayre High School where he remained for six years and subsequently transferred to SRU High School for two years and Troy High School as the Industrial Arts instructor there for 23 years until his retirement. Francis was a member of the National Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association and the Pennsylvania State Retired Teachers Association. Francis enjoyed traveling and working on antique cars. On the morning of Friday, November 18th, 2016, Ruth Jane (Bastion) (Eberlin) Burguess of Roaring Branch passed away quietly at her residence following a courageous battle with a debilitating illness. She was 63 years of age.
![]() Howard Bohart, 77, Ralston, PA (McIntyre Twp.) passed away peacefully at home Nov.12, 2016. Howard Harmon Bohart was born April 30, 1939 in Liberty, PA. He was a son of the late Eugene Harmon and Mary Emma (Brion) Bohart. After serving in the U.S. Airforce, Howard worked in the construction trades and later was a truck driver until retiring in 2004. He was a very quiet person, but also very loving. Howard will be dearly missed and remembered as an upstanding man and a respected father figure to his family and friends. One would often find Howard tinkering in his garage. He always enjoyed tending to his gardens and a good game of cards or dice. Vivian K Bond “Viv” died at Maranatha Manor October 25, 2016 in Sebring, FL. She was 91.
Viv was born on July 23, 1925 in Wilkes-Barre, PA to her parents, Minor and Lillian Kresge. She trusted Christ as her Savior in Firwood Methodist Church at 10 years of age and was called to missions in Latin America while attending a Bible Conference at age 14. She married Donald Bond June 11, 1949 while attending The King’s College where she received a BA in Languages. After Donald graduated from Baptist Bible Seminary in 1955, they were appointed by the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism to the Upper Amazon of Peru in May of that year. They left the US on December 26, 1956 and served in Peru until December 31, 2002. Don and Viv were engaged in a church planting ministry and planted many churches in the Amazon jungle towns, the high Andes mountain villages, and the coastal cities of Peru. Both received a Masters of Religious Education from Grand Rapids Seminary in 1982. ![]() Barbara A. Burk, 81, of Troy, passed peacefully while surrounded by family on Monday, October 24, 2016. Barbara Ann was born February 13, 1935 in Canton, the daughter of the late Gerald McNeal and Grace (McIlwain) Wooster and the step-daughter of Clarence Elwin Wooster. She married Clyde E. Burk on July 5, 1953 in the Canton Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ). Barbara retired from Troy First National Bank after 25 years of service. She enjoyed times spent with family and friends, her summer home at Mountain Lake, volunteering at Troy Community Hospital, painting and knitting. Surviving are her beloved husband of 63 years, Clyde; daughter, Debra Bellows Gardner of Canandaigua, NY; sister, Joyce Rice, Canton, granddaughters, Annalisa Bellows, Rochester, NY, Theresa (Ryan) Monaghan and Sarah Bellows (Jamie Northrop) all of Naples, NY; great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Adiah, Max and Finnegan, several nieces and nephews. ![]() Larry W. Bassett, 71, Granville Summit, PA (Leroy Twp.) passed away unexpectedly Friday Morning, September 9, 2016 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. Larry Wayne Bassett was born in Canton, PA on November 12, 1944. He was one of four children of the late Ardell and Marletta (Rhodes) Bassett. Larry was a 1962 graduate of Canton High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed by Penelec for over 34 years, and retired as a technical supervisor. He then enjoyed his dream of a lifetime job and established SeaDawg Charters, a fishing charter service, on Lake Ontario for eight years. A great husband, father and grandfather, Larry was a mentor and the glue of the family. He would offer help to anyone in need. Larry enjoyed life and lived every day to its fullest. An outdoor enthusiast, he loved to fish, hunt, camp and boat. Larry also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, especially Texas Hold’em and watching old western movies. He was a member of the Canton Moose Lodge 429, American Legion Post 42 in Towanda and a former member of the Wysox Kiwanis. ![]() Robert E. Beach, 79, of Troy, PA and formerly of Granville Summit passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, September 5, 2016 at the Bradford County Manor. Robert Earl, “Bob” Beach was born in Elmira, NY on May 6, 1937. He was the son of the late Fay Oldroyd and Lorena (Cook Blauvelt) Beach and step-son of the late Raymond James “R.J.” Beach. He married the former Julia E. Darrow on March 7, 1958 at Mountain Lake’s Methodist Church. They have shared 58 years together and raised four children. Robert and Julia owned and operated Beach’s Farms in Granville Summit for many years until retirement. Together they improved both the dairy and land through their dedicated and insightful work ethic. In addition to the daily operations of the farm, Bob also hauled milk for Troy Dairy. Family meant everything to Bob. He was an awesome, fun-loving dad and grandpa who enjoyed making time to play children’s games. Bob always loved being outdoors and liked to hunt and fish. He was very interested in farm tractors, participated in several area tractor pulls and was a member of the Twin Tiers Antique Tractor Club. Bob also enjoyed watching sports, especially Dallas Cowboys football. |
