Gary was born on May 13, 1951 in Troy, son of the late Frank and Harriett (Bolt) Hulslander. He was a 1970 graduate of Troy High School and went on to earn an Associated Degree in welding from Williamsport Area Community College. Gary’s whole life was about cars. He could be found most of the time at his family’s business, Hulslander’s Garage on Exchange Street in Troy, working on the community’s vehicles. If Gary was home or at family gatherings he was watching racing on TV, and on Friday nights he and his friends would go to the dirt track races in New York State. After retiring Gary was a Car Chaser for Matthews Motors in Covington, Pa., and did excavating for family and friends.
Gary L. Hulslander, 67, of Troy, Pa. passed away on Friday, Mar. 29, 2019 at the Troy Community Hospital. He was the loving husband of Cheryl (VanEck) Hulslander. The couple married June Dec. 28, 1974 and had 44 happy years together.

(Boyd) Hulslander, age 88, of Elmira Heights, N.Y., formerly of Covington and Mansfield, Pa. died Friday, Mar. 15, 2019 at Chemung County Nursing Facility in Elmira, N.Y. Doris was born on Mar. 27, 1930 in Grover, Pa., a daughter of Robert and Eva (Elliott) Boyd. She was the wife of the late Frederick L. Hulslander who died on July 23, 2007.
Doris is survived by her son John Hulslander of Elmira Heights, N.Y.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Francis (Eileen) Boyd of Fayetteville, Pa., Larry (Karen) Boyd of Whitehall, Pa., Dennis (Vickie) Boyd of LeRoy, Pa.; sister and brother in-law Betty (Allen) Taylor of Canton, Pa.; and special friend Lyn Silvernail of Horseheads, N.Y., and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister and brother-in-law Sandra Jones in 2015 and Harry Jones in 2017. Robert Henry “Bob” Hunsicker, 52 of Canton, Pa., (Armenia Township) passed away unexpectedly at the Guthrie Troy Community Hospital on Mar. 4, 2019. Bob was born June 20, 1966 in Quakertown, Pa., to the late Raymond Hunsicker, his mother, Laurene (Stoneback) Hunsicker of the Bradford County Manor and his biological father, Robert Wampole of Florida.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, camping, riding his Harley and spending time on his land in Armenia Township. He was a very social person and always looked forward to time spent with family, especially his grandchildren. He also loved watching old western movies and spending time with his special canine friend, Two Sox. Elizabeth Lynne (VanDyke) Hertel, 84, of Canton, Pa., passed away at home on Mar. 3, 2019. Elizabeth Lynne Hertel passed away at home on Mar. 3, 2019. Lynne was born 1934 in East Canton, Pa. to the late Davis and Myrtle (Landon) Van Dyke.
She graduated from Canton High School in 1952 and then from East Stroudsburg State Teachers College with a BS in Physical Education. From there Lynne went on to teach special needs children how to swim, a difficult yet rewarding job. In 1956 Lynne married Ted Hertel of Ralston, Pa., and for the next 20 years they raised three sons in Big Flats N.Y. In the late 1980s Lynne moved back to Canton Pa. to work the apple orchard with her father. She built a life for herself caring for the people and the land she loved. Jennie (Tice) Hill, 77 of Lowman, N.Y., unexpectedly passed away at her home on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019.
Jennie Pearl was born June 29, 1941 in Sayre, Pa., a daughter of the late Lewis and Julia (Comfort) Tice. She grew up in the Centerville area and was a 1961 graduate of SRU High School. Jennie was the wife of the late Clifford “Skip” Hill. While Jennie enjoyed her work at several establishments over the years, her devotion to family and home was her real calling in life. She was a member of North Chemung United Methodist Church and the Wellsburg Volunteer Fire Company’s Ladies Auxiliary. Jennie will be lovingly remembered as a quiet person. Though she sometimes kept to herself, she would always offer a hand to anyone in need. She cherished her grandchildren. Jennie also appreciated nature and being outdoors. Favorite enjoyments were fishing, camping, tending her flower gardens, riding bike and playing Bingo. In earlier years, she loved to play softball and was an avid bowler. Minnie L. Hunter, 86 of Ralston, Pa. peacefully passed away while surrounded by her loving family on Friday evening, Dec. 28, 2018, at Manor Care South in Williamsport.
Born July 15, 1932, in Crandletown, Pa. (Lycoming County near Pleasant Stream), Minnie Louise was a daughter of the late Donald and Nola (Barnett) Oliver. She married the love of her life, Robert C. “Bob” Hunter, on Oct. 11, 1953. They were blessed with five children and over 40 wonderful years together before his passing on Feb. 3, 1994. Caring for family and home came first in Minnie’s life. “Grandma Hunny” to her grandchildren, Minnie also helped in raising many of the kids in the Ralston area. She will be remembered by all who knew her as a loving and supportive person who instilled that quality on to her family. She was a member of the Ralston United Methodist Church. Minnie enjoyed bird watching. Cardinals were her favorite. She also loved yellow roses. Donald E. Harkness, 89 of Monroeton, Pa., passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 13, 2018 at the Bradford County Manor in West Burlington Township, Pa.
Donald was born September 25, 1929 in Columbia Township, Bradford County, Pa, the eighth of nine children to Floyd W. Harkness and Louise Pierce Harkness. He was a graduate of Canton High School with the class of 1947. On Sept. 29, 1951 he married the former Shirley J. Franklin in Elmira, N.Y. Donald owned and operated Hark Hill Farms in Franklin Township for many years until his retirement in October of 1996. In early years, Donald served as a milk tester for Rice’s Dairy in Monroeton and for the Ulster DHIA. He was later employed by Sylvania Electric in Towanda. Donald was a member of the Alba Christian Church and the Pennsylvania Holstein Association. On Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018 Judith Mae (Swartzentruber) Hess of Canton, Pa. went home to be with the Lord while at Robert Packer Hospital. She was 69 years of age. Born May 6th, 1949 in Lancaster, Pa. She was the daughter of Earl and Delilah (Kauffman) Swartzentruber. On July 31, 1971, she married H. Laverne Hess. Together they raised four sons and a daughter and shared 35 years until Laverne’s passing in March of 2007. Although committed to the responsibilities of raising a family, Judy still managed to find the time to contribute to the well-being of others. Her selfless concern for people led her to implement the GriefShare Ministry at her home church, as well as Women of Grace, a community support group for widows. She also served many years as a volunteer at the Pregnancy Care Center in Canton. Judy also served as secretary for Dr. Nick Spano. She was a strong, independent woman who loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, and never thought twice about flying out to Colorado to visit with loved ones there. She also enjoyed both flower and vegetable gardening. But most importantly, Judy had an unshakable faith in the Lord and the heart of a servant. When Jesus took her by the hand, she went with Him joyously.
![]() Francis “Butch” Hagemeyer, 74 of Ralston, Pa., passed away unexpectedly at UPMC Williamsport Hospital on Oct. 21, 2018. Francis Millard, “Butch” to family and friends, was born July 24, 1944 in Williamsport. He was a son of the late William Hagemeyer and Helen (Kepner) Crawford. Butch was employed at Avco in Williamsport for 30 years. Always one who was happiest when busy. He, then, worked as an owner/operator truck driver. Butch was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hiking, fishing and camping. He also loved visiting with friends, tinkering and fixing things and drives through the countryside. Surviving are his wife Sue, five children; Shelia, Dan, Sheryl, Lynette and Francis Jr. two grandchildren, five siblings; Millard “Mike” Hagemeyer, George Hagemeyer, Sandy Baylor, Sharon Savits and Carrie Heller, several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He was predeceased by two brothers; John “Jack” Hagemeyer and William “Bill” Hagemeyer, Jr. In keeping with Butch’s wishes, there will be no public services.
