On April 8, 1950, he married the former Dorothy M. “Dot” Andrus at the Burlington United Methodist Parsonage. In early years, Ken was employed by Cox’s Tire Shop in Towanda and by Westinghouse Corp. in Elmira, NY. He owned and operated his dairy farm at Mountain Lake for many years and continued working on the farm until the time of his passing. Ken also served as a school bus driver for the Troy School District for a number of years. He was a member of the Burlington United Methodist Church, Iona Grange, Bradford-Sullivan Pomona Grange, Pennsylvania State Grange, and was a 7th degree member of the National Grange. Ken was also a member of the Holstein USA Association for 47 years, Pennsylvania Holstein Association, Towanda Bowling Hall of Fame and the Troy Bowling Hall of Fame. He loved the outdoors, farming, bowling, playing cards and dancing.
Kenneth Francis “Ken” Harris, 89, of Mountain Lake, Burlington Township, PA passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. Ken was born at New Era, PA on April 4, 1928, the son of Frank McCullough Harris and Lorena Scrivens Harris. He was a graduate of Troy High School Class of 1949.

He loved the outdoors, farming, bowling, playing cards and dancing. Shirley A. Hawkins, 80, Troy Township, passed away on Aug. 29, 2017 at the Bradford County Manor. Shirley was born on March 2, 2017 in LeRoy Township, a daughter of the late Myton and Dorsi (Sage) Bellows.
She was married to William Hawkins Jr. and together they raised a family and worked the family farm. Shirley was an avid line dancer and loved to teach line dancing. She also loved to quilting, winning numerous blue ribbons, working the family farm and being with her family. Shirley worked for many years as a nurse's aide at the Bradford County Manor. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, William Hawkins Jr.; parents, Myrton and Doris (Sage) Bellows; and an infant son, William D. Cole Jr. She is survived by her children Billy Cole of Troy, PA, and Lovejoy Laue, also of Troy. At Shirley's request all services will be private at the convenience of the family. Beverly was born in Troy, PA on April 19, 1933 the daughter of Walter P. Hewitt and Lula McLane Hewitt. She was a graduate of Troy High School with the class of 1950 and on June 6, 1954, Beverly married Frank W. DeWitt in Troy, PA. In later years, Beverly was employed by the Bradford County Head Start Program. Beverly was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in Towanda where she served as a Deacon and held several additional positions. Beverly dedicated her life to serving others. She was an avid gardener, baker, quilter, and was an excellent seamstress. She is survived by children, Stephen J. DeWitt Sr. and wife Ann of Poquoson, VA, Nancy L. Denniston and husband Craig of Lee Summit, MO, David W. DeWitt and wife Susan of Chambersburg, PA, Donna J. Maciejewski and husband Stephen, Red Lion, PA, William F. (Heckman) Cole, 87, of Columbia Cross Roads, PA passed away April 28, 2017 at the Bradford County Manor. Janis was born on March 9, 1930 in Towanda, PA, daughter of the late Harry and Lena (Lafy) Heckman. She was a Towanda High School graduate and was Assistant Manager at American Silk Label in Troy, PA. Janis was an avid bowler, bowling on several leagues in both Canton and Troy, enjoyed things like mowing her lawn and gardening, and loved all aspects of nature and its creatures. Janis is survived by her daughter Christy K. (James) Pazzaglia of Columbia Cross Roads, her grandchildren: Justin S. (Meghan) Leonard, Amie S. Leonard, Brock J. (Jaquelyn) Everts, Jamie L. Pazzaglia, Megan A. Pazzaglia, and Krista C. Pazzaglia, her brothers: Richard (Sharon) Heckman, John “Jack” (Marge) Heckman, and James Heckman, her step children including Carolanne Dibble, several nieces and nephews, and her beloved pets. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother June Heckman. Flora Louise Hoag, 93, Loyalsock Township, PA., passed away on March 20, 2017 at AristaCare at Loyalsock Nursing Center.
Born August 2, 1923 in Williamsport, she was a daughter of Earl and Emily (Tubbs) Botsford. She graduated from Canton High School in 1942. Flora was married to her husband Kenneth for 56 years until his death in 2000. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters; Milton Botsford (Dorothy), Duane Botsford (Stella), Charlotte Botsford, Faye Hanstine (William), Jane Fritz (Raymond), Mary Bruno (John), Sally Rose (Sonny) and a niece, Janet Bruno Haines. Flora is survived by brother, Neil Botsford (Louise), Fishs Eddy, NY; daughter, Karen Innes (Tom), Scottsdale AZ; son, Thomas Hoag, Williamsport; grandson, Robert Innes (Jennifer), San Francisco, CA and three great grandchildren; William, Alexandra and Calvert Innes. She was also very lucky to leave behind 29 wonderfully kind nieces and nephews as well as many great nieces and great nephews who all fondly called her Aunt Beige. We all will love you forever. He was 88 years of age.
Born in Canton December 17th, 1928, he was the son of Harry and Ruby (Decker) Hoffa. Known to all as Ed, he was a graduate of Canton High School, Class of 1949. Throughout his working life Ed was employed at the former Swayze Folding Box Co. in Canton, with the exception of the time he served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On February 14th, 1955 Ed married the former Bessie Arbogast, and together they shared 60 years until Bessie’s passing in 2015. Ed enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid gardener of both vegetables and flowers. He enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and in earlier years was a motorcycle enthusiast. When he lived on the outskirts of the borough he raised horses. He also raised turkeys for Thanksgiving. Ed always had a zest for life. His warm smile and soft-spoken demeanor endeared him to most everyone he met. He was a member of the former Canton Chapter of the Oddfellows. ![]() Donald K. Havens, 87, Troy, passed away on February 27, 2017 at Robert Packer Hospital. Born on September 21, 1929 in Troy. Don was the youngest of three sons of Hugh and Edna(Melville) Havens. Don graduated from Troy High School in 1947 and on May 9, 1948 married his high school sweetheart, the former Marjorie Congdon. Don started his business, Havens Well Drilling in 1955. He was an avid member of the Pennsylvania Ground Water Association along with the National Ground Water Association. He was past president of the PA Ground Water Association and as a member, he promoted water standards for safe drinking water throughout his life. Don also had a shop where he enjoyed wood and metal working. He had a passion for his farm, doing field work and gardening. He enjoyed dancing in his early years and later playing cards with family and friends. In addition to his wife, Marjorie, surviving are his children: H. Keith (Patricia)Havens,Troy, Kathleen (Renold) Aparicio, Norco, CA, Marla (Scott) Oldroyd, Troy; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister in laws: Carol Rockwell and Janice Congdon; brother-in-law Howard(Bonnie)Congdon, many nieces and nephews. ![]() Michael J. Hulslander, 45, Columbia Cross Roads, passed away at home on Thursday, January 26, 2017. Mike was born November 9, 1971 in Waverly, NY son of Judy L. (Hollenbeck) Hulslander and the late James A. Hulslander. Mike was a graduate of Athens High School where he was a member of the basketball and soccer teams. He and the former Melissa Hartranft were married on March 20, 2004 and celebrated 12 years together. Together Mike and Missy dedicated themselves to the Hulslander Family Farm where they worked the farm together side by side. Mike was an avid Penn State Fan, enjoyed attending and watching horse pulls, hunting with his nephews and loved his family deeply. Born September 28, 1936 in Grover, PA, Janet Irene, also affectionately known as “Frogy” by family and friends, was a daughter of the late Arthur and Erma Irene (Elliott) Fields. She attended Canton High School. Janet was a member of Grover’s St. John’s United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed attending the Grover Church of Christ. The wife of the late Willard Edward Hipple, Janet will be remembered as a loving and humble person who thought of others, but her kids always came first. In earlier years, she worked at Canton’s Bellmar Company and later at Canton Manufacturing for many years until retiring. She enjoyed cooking, baking, playing the organ, crossword puzzles, latch hook and all kinds of candy. Janet also liked collecting frog figurines and she grew beautiful African Violets. |
