On March 5, 2017, the family of Dolson "Doggie" Porter will be having a Memorial Service for all who knew him to celebrate his life.
It will be at the Calvary Alliance Church across from Canton Body Shop at 1:00 p.m. Dinner to follow. ![]() Dolson James Porter, 73, died February 10 with his family surrounding him. He was born in Blossburg, PA to the late Addison Charles & Etta Mae McNeal Porter. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the U. S. Army. He was retired from Pinkerton & also volunteered with the fire department for 30 years. He raised his children and loved them more than life itself. Surviving are his children Cheri Cranmer (Jeff), Wendell, Estee Porter, Asheville, Chad D. Porter (Tracey), Garner, Ciara Young (Lee), Wendell; beloved grandchildren Elena, Gibby, Chad, Kaitlyn, Kristen, C.J., Ronnie, Jordan, Kayla, R.J. & precious great grandchildren Lil E, Baby Charles, Summer, Bubba & Henry as well as many cherished family members in his hometown of Canton, PA. The funeral was held at the Strickland Funeral Home, 2 Wendell, February 13. Burial followed in Greenmount Cemetery with military honors. ![]() On the morning of Tuesday, January 17, 2017, Robert Duane Putnam, Sr. went to be with his wife LaRene and passed away at home surrounded by his family. Bob was born on June 2, 1931 in Canton, PA, son of the late William and Gertrude (Wood) Putnam. He was a 1950 Troy High School graduate and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Troy. He married the love of his life Wilma LaRene Krise on June 26, 1954 and had 62 wonderful years together. She passed away November 14, 2016 and he patiently waited to join her. Bob ran Putnam’s Garage on Fallbrook Road for over 35 years. He was well liked and many folks stopped just to visit, whether they needed a vehicle fixed or not. He loved to travel and made many trips to Cocoa Beach, FL. He also enjoyed riding snow mobiles and four wheelers and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. U.S. Veteran Roy Preston, age 75, of Herrickville, PA, passed away early Saturday morning, December 10 2016, at home with his loving wife by his side.
Roy was born in Sayre, PA, on August 3, 1941, a son the late Herb and Doris Neiley Preston. He graduated from the Wyalusing Valley High School, a member of the class of 1959. While serving in the army, he was stationed in Hawaii and Japan. He met and married the former Nancy DeWitt of Camptown, PA. Roy worked hard as professional truck driver, starting in his father’s logging business and then becoming an owner operator for many years. He finished his career employed by Wagner Lumber in Owego, NY, hauling wood products. He was a devoted husband and father and enjoyed spending time with his family. Roy was a member of the American Legion Post #534, Wyalusing, PA. Surviving are: his spouse of 44 years, Nancy Preston, at home; mother-in-law, Bette DeWitt, Herrickville, PA; daughters and sons- in law: Brenda and Tim Ferguson, Herrickville, PA; Barb and John Haskins, Apalachin, NY; Jean Motsko, Little Meadows, PA; Sharon and Daniel Abell; Warren Center, PA; and Judy and Bill Delaney, Apalachin, NY; brother John Preston, Wyalusing PA; sisters and brothers-in-law: Shirley Bristol, Troy, PA; Donna and Ronnie Cole; Wyalusing, PA; Pat and Burt Neuber, Wyalusing, PA; and Mary and Glenn Beckley, Wyalusing, PA; sister-in-law and husband, Sharon and Jim Jones, Lawton, PA; and brother-in-law and wife, Dennis and Peggy DeWitt, Estero, FL; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren as well as numerous aunt and uncles, niece and nephews. ![]() LaRene (Krise) Putnam, 82, of Troy, PA passed away at Troy Community Hospital on Monday, November 14, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of Robert D. Putnam, Sr. The couple married June 26, 1954 and had 62 happy years together. LaRene was born on November 4, 1934 in Canton, daughter of the late Francis and Arlene (Schanbacher) Krise. She was a Canton High School graduate and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Troy. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. LaRene is survived by her husband Bob, her son Robert D. (Barbara J.) Putnam, Jr. and their family of Eric Robert Putnam, Nikki Morrison, Michael William Putnam, and Morreen House, son Terry L. (Melea L.) Putnam and their family of Terry L. Putnam, II, Arrell F. Putnam and four children along with Adam L. Putnam Sarah L. Fowler , son Roger L. (Darlene) Putnam with family Shawn (Tiffany) Putnam, Ryan Putnam, and two children, daughter Melba (Bob) Sentyz and family Shane (Jessica) Case, Shannon Case with Chad Shaylor, ![]() Philip “Phil” Parsons, 81, Canton, PA passed away unexpectedly on August 5, 2016 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Philip Richard Parsons was born on November 9, 1934 in Towanda, he was the youngest of twelve children born to the late John Harry and Louise (Keyser) Parsons. Mr. Parsons honorably served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Shortly following his honorable discharge, he married the former Mary Lou Austin on September 9, 1959 in Canton. She preceded him in death on May 26, 2013 following nearly 57 years of loving marriage. He was employed several years with the former Parker Hannifin Corp. in Canton until retirement. Phil enjoyed staying busy and could often be found in his garage tinkering on just about anything, especially his cars and lawn tractors. He was a very interesting man who liked to visit as he was well known by many for his jokes and story telling. Phyllis R. Patten, 88, a highly respected community member of 10 William St. Towanda, PA passed away Thursday afternoon, July 28, 2016 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Guthrie Memorial Hospital, Towanda, PA.
Phyllis was born at home in Herrickville, PA on January 27, 1928 the daughter of Thomas D. and Ruth Robinson Reinhart. She was a graduate of Camptown High School class of 1945 and in early years was employed by E.I. DuPont in Towanda and by Claverack in Wysox. On August 14, 1954 Phyllis married Stanley Hancock Patten. Phyllis and Stanley enjoyed spending their summer months at their home on Bear Island, Lake Winnipesaukee, NH for many years. Phyllis was very active in community affairs having held membership and offices in the Daughters of the American Revolution, Order of Eastern Star, Towanda Garden Club, Bradford-Sullivan Counties Lions Eye Bank, Quarry Glen Club, Wednesday Club, Sheshequin Book Club, Red Hats, Camptown Alumni Association as well as supportive involvement in numerous community events. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Towanda. Graveside services to honor the life of Michael “Mike” Palmer, 68, of Canton and formerly of Massachusetts will be held at the Beech Flats Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 18. Military honors will follow.

Born Aug. 25, 1944, in Towanda, he was a son of the late N. Raymond and Vera (Nesbitt) Packard. Larry graduated from Canton High School. Following graduation he was a Navy veteran and served during the Vietnam War. He sailed around the world on the Enterprise. He later graduated from Williamsport Area Community College with an associate’s degree. Larry was employed with Northrup-Grumman in environmental compliance and quality control. He also worked for Susquehanna Wire Rope as a supervisor and later retired from the produce department at Wegmans. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 1 and a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Forty & Eight Voiture No. 382. Larry enjoyed working in the flower gardens, going to flea markets and craft shows with his wife, playing washers with his family and dancing. Most of all he cherished sitting on the patio enjoying nature. Suzanne S. (Silvernail) Putnam, 61, of Troy, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, March 19, 2016. She was the loving wife of Allen D. Putnam. The couple married July 8, 1994 and had 21 happy years together.
Suzanne was born on January 15, 1955 in Troy, daughter of the late Robert L. and Joanne L. (Kempfer) Silvernail. She was a Troy High School graduate, Class of 1972 and went on to receive a degree in Banking. Suzanne worked for First Citizens Community Bank at several of the branches and retired in 2008 as Branch Manager of the Troy office. She was a member of Bakerburg Community Church and the Thursday Ladies Bowling League at Terrace Lanes, enjoyed traveling and loved spending time with her family and friends. Suzanne was a true inspiration to her family, friends, and community, showing courage and strength in her battle with breast cancer. |
