Our local farmers are doing lots of “haying”, filling their barns (and bags) as they, too, plan for winter needs.
We love our new front porch, sitting under cover in the shade on the new glider/swing. The back deck is great too – especially mornings as it faces west. With the recent windy storms we’ve had to figure out a better umbrella anchoring. Even when it was down, during another storm the wind picked it up – table and all – and smashed it to the floor – again! But, we think we have it right this time.
There has been a bear sighting in Alba Borough near the community park. And there is an “assumed” one as the dumpster at the church was looted, trash dragged up over the bank, and the dumpster lid pushed all the way inside. We have several walkers, bikers and horseback riders in town – so, I hope they are careful and on the look out.
Our many thanks to everyone that made the LeRoy Heritage Museum’s yard sale last Saturday a big success. Not having LeRoy’s Old Home Day fundraising and having to cancel the Barclay Mt. Heritage Day – all due to COVID 19 – we really needed to make up for some of that loss so that renovations to the museum’s hotel building can continue. We’ll be planning something to make a bit more money perhaps at Christmas time. Stay tuned.
On July 26, 1775, the U.S. Post Office was established and Ben Franklin was made postmaster general. As you know, my mother Lucille was Granville Summit postmaster for 28 years. The Postal “Service” is far from what it was then. I remember as a teenager riding along with the sub rural mail carrier in the summer when the regular carrier was on vacation. I loved it! And I still hold that whole area and its residents near and dear.
Quote by Ben Franklin: “...the longer I live the more convincing proofs I see of this truth, that God governs in the affairs of man. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid?”
