I’m sure you’ve all heard by now that the Bloomsburg Fair is officially canceled for 2020. That is so depressing. And not just because of the financial loss to our grange, but the fact that Ron and I won’t be going to camp there for a few days. Plus – the fact that it’s just one more thing canceled due to this horrid pandemic. It doesn’t end!
First it was toilet paper and hand sanitizer – scarce as hen’s teeth – and now it’s regular size canning jar lids and vinegar!!! Crazy!!! Thank God I had purchased lids along throughout last year and I don’t need cider vinegar for my sweet medley pickles. This virus has turned all of us into “doomsday prep-ers” and we’re getting prepared for whatever else is coming down the pike. We’ve also heard how lucky we are that we got our porch and deck done when we did because of the scarcity of the lumber and the prices are now through the roof. It’s just so sad for lots of folks struggling right now.
Get well wishes are sent out to Louise Roloson who is a patient at the Robert Packer Hospital.
Much to our surprise, we had a hummingbird that came right up to Ron while he was sitting on the porch. He said he thought it was going to take a rest on the brim of his hat. Unfortunately I didn’t get to see the bird.
We were able to sit out on the porch one evening until almost 10! We’re “early to bed – early to rise” people, so sitting out that late was unusual. It had been so humid all day so the breeze was very welcomed and comfortable. There were fireflies (we always called them “lightening bugs”) about, a bat or two, and we watched a big, bright full moon come up over the trees in the east. A lovely night indeed.
We heard there was another bear sighting in the borough near the community park. And, also, a large bob cat was spotted. Maybe that’s why the cluster of deer and fawns we usually see up the hill have become a bit scarce.
