Hard to believe that a week ago, Lake Nepahwin was just starting to thaw. As soon as the thaw began, waterfowl started to appear. It has been wonderful to watch different birds stop by.
On April 4th several mergansers were seen, followed by mallards and wood ducks. A few days later the osprey came in and usually stays for the season. On the morning of April 9th the lake was still two-thirds covered in ice. A nice surprise watching a mature bald eagle hunt for fish. Mallards, wood ducks and seagulls also played in the lake. By early morning on April 10th the ice was gone.
Since then a loon, osprey, mergansers, cormorants, wood ducks, mallards, Canada geese, and pied billed grebes have been observed. It is a wonderful time of year. Spring is really here.
Around the area snow drops and crocus are in bloom. And along the roadside colts foot is in bloom.
We are now waiting for the hummingbirds to arrive.
It is good to see God's beauty all around us.
