26 County Conservation Districts Received Funding to Promote Water Pollution Prevention Strategies across Pennsylvania
Bradford County Conservation District received $2000 in grant money to conduct two different farm tours where farmer projects (BMP’s) will be highlighted, and a research trial on nitrogen needs of corn in various management schemes. The tours will focus on improvements local farms have installed that will benefit both them and the environment. The nitrogen trial will focus on applying less nitrogen on fields that can supply their own (cover crops, no-till, soil health). The Canton Area School District received $803.50 donations from the CHS Student Council in April for the school safety basketball game fundraiser
Wilkes University awarded 680 doctoral, master's and bachelor's degrees to students graduating after the completion of the spring 2015 semester.
Amanda Connell of Canton received a Master of Science in Education. The first meeting of the local Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees (PARSE) Chapter met on April 14 at the Towanda Elks Lodge No. 2191.
President Bill Hector welcomed each member and guest. After a delicious meal served by Darlene Maynard and staff, President Bill introduced the speaker, Lynn Herman, Lobbyist for PARSE. Two Blacksmith Classes, sponsored by Rekindle the Spirit, will be held at the Manley-Bohlayer Heritage Farm (blacksmith shop) in East Canton, PA (Rt. 414 at East Canton Crossroad) June 6 and June 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Jason Strunk, formerly of Grover, has been accepted to the prestigious Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. He will begin work on a doctoral degree in choral conducting with internationally renowned conductor, Dr. Karen Kennedy in the fall of 2015.
"REFLECTIONS", a choir from the Athens Area High School will provide the special music at the Standing Stone Community Vesper Church on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 7:00 pm.
Bradford County reported 31,190 party registrations for the May 19 primary election.
10,778 (34.56%) voted in the primary. There are 10,321 registered Democrats, and 2,774 (26.9%) voted. There are 20,501 registered Republicans and 7,972 (38.9%) voted. |
