The Canton Wine & Cheese committee has announced their featured wine vendors for the June 27th festival. The day-long event will feature Pennsylvania wineries, craft vendors as well as full-service food vendors.
It was cool and cloudy, but June 6 was the busiest day of the season so far at the Canton Farmers' Market, with nine vendors.
Four were back from last week: Warren and Donna Strout and Millie Castle were selling eggs for Bob Bastion; John Carpenter was selling his "Piatt Road Honey," Gloria Molyneux was selling crafts and cookies, Arla Moyer had a booth with her crochet crafts. In order to protect Pennsylvania citizens from unscrupulous individuals posing as physicians, Rep. Matt Baker (R-Tioga/Bradford/Potter) has introduced legislation approved by the state House to increase penalties for those who impersonate a doctor and treat patients.
Specifically, House Bill 609 increases the grading for a person who impersonates a doctor of medicine and provides medical treatment, from a second-degree misdemeanor to a first-degree misdemeanor, even if no actual harm comes to the patient. Alba Borough Council held its’ regular borough council meeting Monday, June 8, 2015 at the First Christian Church of Alba’s basement. Borough Council discussed plans for road resurfacing for Alba Mountain Road, Sister Street, and Cemetery Street. Canton Township had estimated the cost for pothole repair, tarring, and chipping to be around $5500.00. Councilmember Gordon Matson suggested that before the borough proceed with the project that the sluice at the end of Sister Street be replaced.

The Friends of the Green Free Library are getting ready for their annual book sale to be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday July 30, 31 and August 1st. This year the sale will be held at the Fireman’s Hall. If you have books to donate please call Kathleen Nelsen (673-3985) or Sheila Riggs (506-5485) for pick-up, or drop them off at the Library during Library hours. Please do not leave books outside the library. The Friends accept clean fiction, non-fiction, paperback, hardcover, books-on-tape and children’s books but NOT textbooks, Reader’s Digest condensed books, encyclopedias or dictionaries. So look over your stash of books in closets, on shelves or packed away and donate them to this worthy cause! 4-H book fund-raiser will be held at the Craftsmen of the Endless Mountain's "June Jubilee" on June 13th & 14th at the Forksville Fairgrounds, Forksville PA
The "fund-raiser" has been held in Sullivan County for over 20 years. It's purpose is to make 4-H free for children who want to be in 4-H programs. It also helps reduces the counties share for the programs. All the books are donated and when selling the books they ask for donations and not certain prices for the books. This seems to work out great for the group. ![]() Recently, the Canton VIA held a Chinese Auction on the Go. This year they have 12 participants and the size of the garden has doubled! They appreciate all who helped with building and planting on the work day: Tommy Aurandt, Joy Blackburn, Tom Blackburn, Janet Bown, Ted Bown, Bonnie Browning, Ray Browning, Brad Chamberlain, Jane Holcomb, Rusty Howard, Dave Lambert, Sherry Lambert, Dale Letts, Mary Ann Letts, LaVonne McNett, Sandy Navone, and Charlotte Tillotson. Now that the garden is planted, the work continues! They will have Garden Fellowship twice each week all summer to weed, water, and enjoy fellowship with each other. The times scheduled are each Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays, at 9:00 a.m. Please join them whenever you are able to experience the fellowship as they make the garden grow. ![]() |
