Recently, Dean and Carolyn Arnold, of Asylum Township, Bradford County, gave the Troy Historical Society a donation of $1,000 for the purchase of two windows in the Troy Sale Barn. One window was in memory of Fay L. and Ruth Wells Arnold and the second in memory of Fred C. and Janie Barrett. After the sale barn’s windows are installed, a brass tag, with the name of the donee, will be placed under each window. |
Troy TOPS #986 met on July 13 at the Troy Vets Club with sixteen members weighing in. There was a total loss of 16 3/4 pounds. There were three turtles.
Top TOPS loser was Jim with 4 3/4 pounds. The best KOPS loser was Betty with 3/4 pounds lost. The fruit basket was shared by Betty and Jim. The menu game winner was Jim. Betty won the quarter game. Jim also won the This is Your Week contest. Runner up is Charlotte. Because of local popular demand, the Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) of Canton again will be sponsoring a New York City Holiday Sights and Sounds (dining and shopping or walking tour) and Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular Trip on Wednesday, December 16, 2015.

The classes may change, but the excitement does not as trucks and tractors compete for prize money and trophies on the track at the Tioga County Fair. Tuesday, Aug. 11, trucks ranging in size from pickups to semis will be featured at the Truck Pull starting at 7p.m.
Truck classes for Tuesday’s Pull are: 6200 lbs Street Stock 4x4, 6200 lbs Open Class 4x4, 6800 lbs Street Stock 4x4, 6800 lbs Open Class 4x4, 8000 lbs Street Legal Diesel 4x4, 8000 lbs Diesel Open Class 4x4, Semis Street Legal A microsurfacing project along 4 miles of Rt. 220 in Sullivan and Bradford counties started, July 7.
The project includes microsurfacing, installation of rumble strips and placement of pavement markings. Work will be on two sections of Route 220, including: A 2.5-mile section from just north of Old Rt. 220 (T-314) in Laporte Township, Sullivan County, to just south of Main Street in Laporte Borough, Sullivan County. A 1.5-mile section from just south of Shearer Road in Cherry Township, Sullivan County, to just north of the Bradford County line. Traffic will be maintained by daylight flagging operations. The Bradford County Library is pleased to announce that author and columnist Duane Campbell will be the presenter at the ‘Escape the Ordinary’ summer series on Thursday, July 16th at 6pm. Mr. Campbell will discuss the varieties, wonders, and adaptability of sedum. This large genus contains about 400 species of succulent annuals, biennials, perennials, and shrubs native to the northern hemisphere. Sedum are quick growing, can be carpet forming or a 3ft. tall upright. They make excellent hanging basket or pot plants. They grow in crevices on walls, on concrete often overflowing their pot . Recently local birdhouses have been spotted with sedum covered roofs. Sedum are a likely choice for the popular fairy garden. Their uses are many, their delights are uncountable.
The LeRoy Township Board of Supervisors held its July meeting at the LeRoy Community Association Building. Present were Vice President Jason Krise and Supervisor Ted Tomlinson and Road Foreman Butch May. Mr. Krise conducted the meeting in the absence of President Mike Miosi.
The minutes of the June meeting were approved and the Treasurer's report approved with these balances: General fund checking, $84,488.78; Impact Fee, $142,968.26; General fund debit account, $1,099.01; Jumbo CD, $201,375; PLGIT, $44,201.69. |
