Donna Detrick of Sayre was the winner at the Valley Bridge Club’s Tuesday Afternoon Bridge Game held in Athens Township. Beverly Dann of Athens Township finished in second place.
In August, Northern Tier Regional Planning and Development Commission, in partnership with Guthrie and the United States Geological Survey, were awarded $173,250 by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) to conduct a county-wide groundwater study. USGS is providing $173,250 in match funds while Guthrie is contributing $23,250, bringing the total project cost to $369,750. Utilizing random sampling, the study will test water from private domestic-supply wells in Bradford Co. to characterize the quality of groundwater and provide baseline groundwater quality data.
For a scary good time, come to the Bradford County Library’s Spooktacular Halloween Bash on Wednesday, October 28th at 6 p.m. for grades first through third. Listen to some haunted tales, play games, and enjoy snacks. If you wish, arrive in costume and sport your festive spirit. Registration is not required but recommended.

Additional acres of Bradford farmland will be preserved following this week’s approval of the purchase of conservation easements by the state Agricultural Land Preservation Board, according to state Sen. Gene Yaw. Nearly 260 acres of farmland in LeRoy Township, Bradford County, will be preserved from non-agricultural development.

Where can we find such a king? Where has he been hiding?” Have you been putting off returning your library books because of fines? We have good news for people who spent the summer with a good book but didn't return it on time. The Bradford County Library is waiving overdue fines from Monday, Oct. 26 through Saturday, Nov. 7. To participate, you must return your items to the Circulation Desk and notify the person at the desk that you wish to take advantage of the amnesty day when you return your overdue items. This does not apply to existing fines on previously returned items or damaged items. You must have your fines waived at the time you return them by speaking with the person on duty. Fines will not be waived after the fact or for items returned in the book drop. The Bradford County Library is located on Route 6 one mile west of Burlington. Troy TOPS #986 met October 19 at the Troy Vets Club with thirteen members weighing in. There was a total loss of 7 3/4 lbs. There was one turtle. Top TOPS was Elaine with 3 lbs. Runners-up were Barb and Velma with 1 3/4 lbs. The fruit basket was shared by Barb and Velma. The menu winner was Rose Marie and Rose Marie also won the quarter game. The No-No food is pasta and the Yes-Yes food is fruits. This is your week winner was Barb. The Three Xs were drawn by Brenda, Jim and Velma. The club walked 61 miles for the week, with a total of 2,705 for the year. The Challenge for the Week is walking. Bingo was played by the club. The meeting was closed with the "Helping Hands" verse. Anyone interested in TOPS Club can contact any club member. ![]() Connie Sickler, a talented artist and owner of Settlement House in Sylvania donated one of her prints "The Gift of Peace" to the Saint Micheal Parish Fine Art Fundraiser. Connnie is a well-known artist in the area and was recently one of the judges at the Apple and Cheese Festival art show in Canton. She has been painting for many years and proudly supports a number of artists throughout Bradford and Tioga counties and beyond. Anyone interested in obtaining her print or other works of art can come to the sale and silent auction held on November 7, beginning at noon at Saint Michael the Archangel Church, Canton. There will be an Election Day Dinner on Tuesday November 3 at the West Burlington United Methodist Church. Serving will be from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. Menu will be Ham Loaf, Veggies and Home Made Pies.
