The Bradford County Council of Republican Women has had a very busy spring, a member reports. On March 24th, the group met at the Riverstone Inn in Wysox Township. The program was presented by Marleta Shadduck and Joyce Grant. Their speech was on “Women’s History Month”. While they spoke on a few women of past history, they also spoke about four women making a difference in our Country today. Three of the women are Congresswoman and they are Martha McSally from AZ., Elise Stefanik from NY and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen from FL. The fourth woman they spoke about was Carly Fiorino who was the former CEO at Hewlett Packard Since our meeting, she has declared her intention to run for President.
The most recent meeting was held at the Country Club in Wysox. The meeting was called to order followed by the invocation, the Pledge of Allegiance and the council pledge. This meeting was “Candidates Day”. Each candidate was given a couple of minutes to present themselves to the council in seeking their vote in this year’s election. Speaking were: Alan Shaw and Evan Williams for Judge, Matt Allen and Krystal Bristol for Auditor, Dale Bowen, Jon Kulick, Doug McLinko and Daryl Miller for Commissioner, Carrie Donald, Jeff Smith and Dan Barrett for District Attorney, Dawn Close for Prothonotary, C.J. Walters for Sheriff and Becky Clark for Treasurer. Shirley Rockefeller, Register and Recorder, sent her regrets as she was out of town.
Lastly, the Council held their spring banquet on May 3rd at The Original Italian Grille in Sayre. The main speaker was Matthew Carl, Curator of the Bradford County Historical Society. He spoke on “Women in History from Bradford County”. His speech and slide show was very informative and well received. Four candidates for Supreme Court of Pennsylvania were in attendance. Each spoke for a few minutes. They were, Mike George from Adams County, Cheryl Allen from Allegheny County, Correale Stevens from Luzerne County and Rebecca Warren from Montour County. The Republican Party is proud of the slate of candidates running for public office be it County, State or Federal.
Dates to remember include “Christmas in July” at Jan Kellogg’s house on July 8th at 5:00 p.m. Cost is $10.00 per person and bring a dish to pass. July 27 – August 1st Troy Fair, at which the women man a booth. August 25th is the annual picnic at the Wysox Boat Launch.
