The Canton PM class of Bradford Tioga Head Start celebrated Dr. Seuss in many ways throughout the week of March 2nd through 5th. They read several of his stories including Cat in the Hat, Hop on Pop, and Fox in Socks. They also made their own hats using patterns and created Green Eggs using glue and coloring. The children practiced their rhyming skills and created some nonsense words just for fun!
“This was a great opportunity for the children to learn more about a wonderful author and the many books that he has written,” said Canton Teacher Jena Miller. “The children were able to interact with Dr. Seuss’s stories which helped to further their love for reading and books.” Developing and nurturing a child’s love for reading was the goal of Dr. Seuss. He knew that if a child learned to read and loved to read, they would love to learn! That is evidenced in this quote: “And will you succeed? Yes indeed, yes indeed! Ninety-eight and three-quarters percent guaranteed!”
