Kim Bailey, Casey Clegg, Ike Bowers, Barb Spencer, Ken Robertson, Frank Watson, Bobbi Jo Klick, Steve Pettigrew, John Shaffer, Cassie Estep, Darlene McDonald, Dave Ward all volunteered to be arrested, and the money used to "bail them out," $8,039.05, will be donated at the "Making Strides 5K Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness" event at Indian Park in Montoursville, Oct. 19.
The funds will be used for cancer research and transportation and lodging for families.
In addition to those listed, the Judge" sentenced several other people - including a "guard" and even some children - to jail for various misbehaviors during the Round-Up.
The Judge even threw announcer Shane Wilber into jail as he was acting as "attorney" for Ken Robertson. Mr. Wilber served the longest stretch of anyone in "the clink" and was a great sport throughout the ordeal.
The original group of "jailbirds" responded to summons that included such heinous offenses as "being the Doogie Houser of the Hardware Store," "using the Independent-Sentinel to line a bird cage," and "impersonating a police officer." Some who failed to surrender at the appointed time had their "sentence" extended, as did any who failed to bring the summons. Each defendant was handcuffed, haled into court, and after sentencing, was given a convict's cap, had "mug shots" taken, and was incarcerated
Kim Bailey brought her tin cup, Ken Robertson showed up in an orange jumpsuit and brought his harmonica; and he and Ike Bowers sang a duet "Jailhouse Rock" with the other prisoners joining in the chorus.
There were a lot of laughs and a nice-sized crowd of onlookers gathered at the patio at the Warrior Lounge to watch justice being dispensed. Many people donated "bail" and more than a few paid to keep some of the felons "in stir" for a bit longer.
Everyone had a marvelous time and all were thrilled with the large amount of money raised for the battle against cancer.
Major donors were Warner Tractor, Rob Heed Logging, Blaise Alexander, Farmer Boy Restoration, Moore Trucking, Cuz Excavating LLC, Dave & Joy Ward, Louise Ward, B & S Haulers, and Justin & Heather Walker.
The jail was sponsored by Hess Farm Equipment, Jim's Sporting Goods, Stull's Flowers and D & H Keystone Market, with material provided by Canton Building Supply. The jail was built by Kevin Young and the staff of Endless Mountains Eye Care.
Mrs. Watkins said, "We had such a good time…and we plan to do this again next year. If you would like to join the cast and crew just let us know. Thanks, Canton, Troy and surrounding areas for "Making Strides to Save Lives."
