Entries should be brought to the Canton Wine & Cheese Festival on June 27th, between 11:00 and 11:30am. Entrants are required to buy a ticket to the festival. Winemakers should bring two bottles of each wine for entry in the competition. One bottle will be opened and judged and the other will be used in the final award display. The fee to compete is $10 for the first entry and $5 for each additional entry. Multiple entries are permitted and there is no limit to the number of entries per winemaker. There will be two categories for judging: Dry/Semi-Dry (Less than 3% residual sugar) and Sweet/Dessert (3.1% or more residual sugar). As the competition grows in future years, the committee hopes to add additional categories and prizes.
The judging panel will name a first, second and third place winner in each of the two categories, as well as one grand champion. The grand prize is a one-night stay at the beautiful Rockgirt Bed & Breakfast in Canton, PA. First place in each category will win two tickets to the 2016 Canton Wine & Cheese Festival and second place will receive a Canton Area Chamber of Commerce gift certificate.
When the judging is complete, bottles and results will be on display at the Canton Wine & Cheese Festival’s booth behind the Manley-Bohlayer Farmhouse. Awards will be presented at 4:30 pm on the back lawn entertainment stage.
“We know that local winemakers are producing great homemade wines in our area,” said committee member Angie Schoonover. “Our committee wants to recognize the talents of these local winemakers and encourage them to keep up the good work.”
