The 2015 Heritage Festival, which is held in Alparon Park in Troy was once again a success with good weather both days.
Visitors to the festival where able to visit the Museum where they saw lots of artifacts and looked into the theme of the festival which was Timber. There were a lot of displays on the field which included old cars, tractors, horse wagon rides, and children's activities. John Brannaka, Roaring Branch earned an AS for the 2yr Physical Therapist Assistant program. Stacey Hussmann Columbia Cross Roads, World Campus earned an AS in the 2yr Business Administration program.
Korey White, Columbia Cross Roads, B S in Criminal Justice. The Armenia Township board of supervisors met on September 10 with Supervisors Chad Harwick and Steve Harris, Treasurer Gary Horning, Secretary Mallory Babcock and an audience of six.
Resident Dan Bastion questioned why the drainage problem by his property is still unresolved. The Supervisors answered that the residents in the area need to make some decisions regarding the private road drainage issues before the township can proceed with any possible corrective measures on Douglas Road. The Board felt the issue really is one for the residents of Doe Run Lane to resolve and not a township issue. Resident James Smith asked about having reflectors placed in the road on Fallbrook Road to assist in the road visibility on foggy nights. Supervisor Harris stated he would have the road-man look into the cost. The minutes of the August meeting were approved. National Life Chain is a pro-life event that has been happening in cities and towns across the United States since its inception in 1987. It is a silent and prayerful event to bring awareness to the millions of children that have been aborted in this country in the last forty plus years. Life Chain events have been occurring in Bradford County for a number of years; those events held in Sayre,Towanda, Wyalusing and in Dushore in Sullivan County as well.
Life Chain participants will line the main streets of Canton holding signs for the hour long life chain which will be held from 2-3 PM on October 4th. Back by popular demand, the 2016 Bradford-Sullivan Counties Outstanding Young Woman Program will be facilitating the “People’s Choice Award” activity. This award is primarily a “fun” fundraiser which benefits the Local Scholarship Fund. The winner’s picture will be posted on the “People’s Choice Award Board” in the auditorium lobby at the conclusion of the program. It will not be announced on stage, as it is not part of the actual program.
The "144 Envelope" board is on display at the Rialto Theatre. The idea is to receive donations corresponding to the dollar amount on the envelope you take from the board, from $1.00 to $144.00. Participating in this unique opportunity allows everyone to help be a part of supporting and maintaining their local “Historic Rialto Theatre”.
The LeRoy Township Supervisors held their September meeting with Chairman Mike Miosi, Supervisors Ted Tomlinson and Jason Krise, and Road Foreman Butch May.
Two guests were Kristin Pepper, Dirt & Gravel Roads Specialist with the Bradford County Conservation District and Chris Insinger of Insinger Quarry in Sullivan County. The minutes of the August meeting were accepted with two corrections. The resignation of Auditor John Brenchley was accepted. He has moved out of the township. The elections bureau has stated that Mr. Brenchley's name will appear on the November ballot for the new term as auditor, so he will have to decline the office if he wins the position. The Treasurer's Report was approved with these balances: Jumbo CD, $201,651.13; Impact Fee, $272,524.11; State Fund, $40,472.50; General Fund Checking, $83,537.82; General Fund Debit, $1,099.01; Lilley Hill Account, $53,687.50. September 8th Canton MOPS held their very first meeting.
Their steering committee were all amazed at the turn out with the first meeting falling right after Labor Day. It was a thrill seeing mom after mom walk through that door. All enjoyed talking to their little ones. Watching their faces as they dropped their children off with the childcare volunteers was priceless. The blessing that all can be to these moms is so rewarding. Everyone is looking forward to making connections and building relationships with each one this year. |
