![]() On July 18, a bus load of people enjoyed a free guided public tour of the Tioga State Forest, focusing on the Armenia Mountain tract east of Blossburg. Topics included history of the Armenia Mountain Tract, oil and gas well exploration, acid mine drainage and abatement, recreational facilities, sustainable forest management and wildlife habitat enhancement. The group enjoyed lunch at Lamb's Lookout (shown above). Transportation, lunch, and water were provided. The Canton Area Recreation Association received $218.40 on July 10 for recycled aluminum cans from Staiman Recycling in Williamsport. Many of the cans were collected from the Canton American Legion Post #303 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #714, and many other members of the community also turned in cans. The cans were stored by Ken & Karen Robertson and were transported to Williamsport by Frank Jennings of Jennings Coal. The Rec. Association is very appreciative of the generous community spirit shown by everyone who contributes to the can project in any way. A $743,000 culvert replacement project on Route 414 near the intersection of Jennings Road (T-318) in Leroy Township, Bradford County, is scheduled to start on Monday, July 27.
The existing corrugated metal pipe culvert over a tributary to Towanda Creek was built in 1963 and is classified as structurally deficient. The family band “The Williamson Branch” is coming to perform at a Concert on the Green in East Smithfield, July 25, at 6 p.m. This gospel bluegrass band will share their ministry at a concert on the green, weather permitting, in downtown East Smithfield, PA. Bring a lawn chair. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the Federated Church sanctuary. A love offering will be received to benefit the group.
This Sunday, July 26, Renee Ruchotzke will present “What is our UU DNA?” In response the white paper "Congregations and Beyond" by Unitarian Universalist President Peter Morales, Rev. Renee Ruchotzke will explore how Unitarian Universalism might evolve in tomorrow’s society.
Gary and Carol Stedge will provide the "Special Music" at the Standing Stone Community Vesper Church at 7:00 pm this Sunday, July 26, 2015.
Gary and Carol reside on the Burwick Turnpike Road. They are both retired, Gary did many things, but loves carpentry work and Carol retired from the Troy Community Hospital. As work continues on Route 6 under the Route 220 overpass in North Towanda Township, Bradford County, motorists are advised of a traffic pattern change that took effect Monday, July 20.
![]() On July 4, 2015, Janelle Phelps, Morris, PA, daughter of Jeffery and Bonnie Phelps, Morris, PA became the bride of Airman First Class, Chad Baumunk, son of Garry and Kathleen Baumunk, Canton. The wedding took place in Monterey, CA with the ceremony being conducted by Blair Phelps, brother of the bride. The flower girl and ring bearer was Vayda Bryan, nice of the groom. It was a beautiful day for the Canton Farmers' Market, July 18 and there were five vendors doing business.
The ladies from Country Delights were selling bread, pies and baked goods; John Carpenter had his Piatt Road Honey; Bob and Karen Coles were selling sweet corn from the Sechrist farm; Arla Moyer was selling her crocheted items; and the Zimmerman farm was selling garden produce. |
