Three young ladies will represent Canton Area Jr. Sr High School at the Outstanding Young Woman program, September 26. One lady will represent Troy Jr. Sr. High School.
The Bradford Co. Republican Committee is sponsoring its 4th annual essay contest open to all Bradford Co students in grades 4 through 12. The topic is "How Would You Define An American Hero?" Essays will be grouped into three divisions: grades 4, 5, and 6; grades 7, 8, and 9; and grades 10, 11, and 12. Winners in each division will be awarded a plaque and a $50 cash prize. Second place winners will each receive certificates and a $25 cash prize. Chris came home from school with a note describing his involvement in a fight with his best friend Will. Our "Chinook Sage" columnist was a former Altar Boy, and he reminds us that Pope Francis, from Argentina, is the first Pope born in the Western Hemisphere. He is also the first Pope to be on the cover of the Rolling Stone magazine. The Pope will visit Washington, Philadelphia and New York during his stay in the United States. At the Towanda Universalist Unitarian Fellowship this Sunday at 3 pm, Jean Spencer will speak about the poem "When I am an Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple". The themes found within this poem cry out to the older generations, celebrating the gift of freedom and liberty, manifested by the realization that as one becomes old and wise, one can throw off the old societal values we keep to so automatically through our lives and become self actualized free spirits. Come and join us in the Towanda Universalist Untarian Fellowship Sanctuary for a refreshing and joyful look at growing older. Please enter via the Second Street main door. The service will be held in the sanctuary on street level. On September 26 at the WoofStock Music Festival being held at Animal Care Sanctuary (ACS) in East Smithfield there will be a Pet Costume Parade. Between musical performances at 5:00 costumes will be displayed by Animal Care Sanctuary dogs as well as dogs brought to the event. Yes, dogs are welcome! Children can dress in their costumes too! The music will be played from 3:00 – 8:00, featuring Lando On Fire, Justin Raynor, Janelle Daddona, and Spexxx. Along with the Parade, the event will feature hayrides, pumpkin decorating contests, Hand to Paw Art, and other children’s events. The pre-vet interns who are with ACS this semester will be working in the indoor arena with the children. There will be food vendors, and the Dairy Princess will be serving ice cream. Tours of the facility will be offered and T-shirts will be sold. Tickets can be purchased online at www.animalcaresanctuary.org or the day of the event.
