The Canton Borough Authority Board of Directors held a special meeting on October 1 with Chairman Jeff Cole and directors David Zimmer, Brian Landon, and John Mosser and Manager Les Hilfiger.
The theme for the 2015 Canton Civic Club Annual Halloween Parade is “Movie Land." The parade will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. Floats will be judged at 4:30 p.m. behind the High School. Costumes and novelties will be judged at 4:30 p.m. at the Church of Christ parking lot at the corner of East Union Street and North Minnequa Avenue. The Bradford County Tourism Promotion Agency has extended its deadline for the Room Tax Grants. Applications must be postmarked on or before the deadline of Friday October 16. Grants are available for Bradford County organizations with a 501c3 or 501c6 status. For more information, please contact the Tourism Agency at 570-265-8687. Applications are at www.bradfordcountypa.org The 18th annual Chinese Auction sponsored by the Friends of the Green Free Library will be held Saturday October 24th at the Canton Elementary School. The doors open at 5 PM – the drawings begin at 7 PM. The admission is $5.00 for adults, which provides them with one sheet of tear-off tickets plus door prize and grand prize tickets. Children under 18 are admitted free. Extra sheets of tickets are $1.00 each. Area businesses and individuals have donated fabulous prizes – toys, jewelry, tools, gift certificates, clothing, baked goods, decorations and tons more. Starting mid next week, and continuing for about two weeks the contractors will be utilizing pile driving equipment at the wastewater treatment plant site, which will generate a significant amount of noise and vibration.
The Authority apologizes in advance for the inconvenience. The Green Free Library has received a gift in memory of Edward M. Scholtz from the CHS class of 1952.
Last week one of the Scranton area TV stations did a story on how school districts are dealing with the budget impasse in Harrisburg.
The Perinatal Bereavement Program at Arnot Ogden Medical Center will host a memorial gathering, “Grief Shared is Grief Diminished,” at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 19 in the Petrie Conference Center on the ground floor of the Medical Center.
This interfaith memorial gathering is being held for family, friends and caretakers of persons who have experienced a loss of pregnancy or infant death. This gathering allows families to reaffirm that their babies have not been forgotten. By coming together and remembering the lost loved one, the pain of grief will diminish. Child care is available. Members of the Canton High School Class of 1950 will meet at the home of Eloise Caseman starting at 12 noon on October 14. The main dish and beverage will be provided. Please bring a salad or dessert. |
