The Canton Wine & Cheese committee has announced their featured wine vendors for the June 27th festival. The day-long event will feature Pennsylvania wineries, craft vendors as well as full-service food vendors.
Rekindle the Spirit, Inc. has announced the 2015 Children's Summer Workshops at the Manley-Bohlayer Heritage Farm in East Canton. The free workshops are provided by United Way of Bradford County and Rekindle the Spirit, Inc. The classes are open to children who are currently completing kindergarten through sixth grades. The hands on activities will be offered each Tuesday in July. There will be a morning session from 9:30-11:30 and then an afternoon session, 1:00-3:00. The groups are each limited to 15 children and pre-registration is required. To sign up your child, please call Lucy at 570-364-8165. A workshop on the history and construction of stone walls was enjoyed by eighteen adults at the Manley-Bohlayer Farm on Saturday, April 25. Ken Ely of Good Neighbor Walls presented the workshop which included a slide presentation in the morning followed by a hands-on workshop in the afternoon.
Each year brings many interesting and educational events to the Manley-Bohayer Heritage Farm, but visitors to the farm on Saturday, April 11 could experience a very uncommon and unusual display - Mourning Memorabilia and Funeral Ephemera. The exhibit was titled "Grave Matters" and was presented by Wendy Belaski and Julia Snell-Esty of Scranton. Here’s a great opportunity to participate in a fun and relaxing Zentangle® class at a reduced rate thanks to the Bradford Co. United Way and Rekindle the Spirit. Instructor, Mary Beth Schoonover, earned her title as a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT) in September 2012 from the founders of Zentangle®, Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts. She has also continued her education in this art form at Tangle U in 2013, 2014 and 2015. She teaches regularly scheduled classes at the Hobby Lobby in Horseheads and monthly classes at Rockgirt Bed and Breakfast in Canton. Mary Beth also teaches private lessons or group lessons by request at various venues.

Merle Eiffert, blacksmith/instructor of the class, will be demonstrating the art of blacksmithing which is taking hot iron heated on a coal fire in a forge and forming it into shapes such as door handles, nails, dinner chimes, metal roses, and wine glass holders. Participants will be making an item of their choosing during the six-hour session. Those wishing to participate in the class are asked to register by June 1 by telephoning Gene Kennedy, Coordinator (570) 673-8144. A registration fee is required ($35 per person) and each class is limited to ten participants. |
