TROY — Troy Chamber of Commerce talked about upcoming and current events at their July meeting on Wednesday, July 1, at State Farm.
Troy’s 175 anniversary celebration took place last Saturday, July 4, throughout the borough. The historical society now has new exhibits to view at their location. Boy Scout Troop 49 assisted the VFW and American Legion in retiring flags on Saturday. Chamber sponsored cake on The Green that day.
Veronica Seymour reported about the car show at the meeting, stating that so far, turnouts have been great at each event. The car show is hosted at First Citizens Bank every Tuesday evening.
Troy Hospital hosted the car show last week. Sept. 1 and 8 still need to be filled for hosting help.
The Lions Club reported their new president, Rich Havens. Mike Bridgeham also spoke about their recent golf tournament which took place with 24 teams on June 27. Dave Schucker was also awarded the Melvin Jones Award through the Lions Club.
The bowling center is the building of the year, to celebrate 60 years in operation. Troy
Chamber still needs an ornament subject.
Seymour also spoke on behalf of the Troy Sale Barn, stating that they are back open for business.
Troy Rotary announced their annual golf tournament.
Chamber approved a motion to advertise public service announcements in the Troy Gazette Register and radio station, to encourage residents to “shop local.” The idea of possibly allocating funds for lawn signs came up as well for $1,000. Later on, a motion was made to set aside an “emergency fund” of $5,000 for chamber members in need of help during a time of stress.
The finance committee met with a proposed budget for the year.
The chamber is still seeking gift certificate participants as well and briefly discussed what their options were with the program.
The website was brought up during the meeting, with Seymour stating that it needed updated and improved. She plans to seek the help of Chris Boggs for help and improvement on the website and getting it to be more user friendly.
Robyn Cummings of the Bradford County Tourism Promotion Agency spoke about the office being open, but with restrictions still due to COVID-19.
“The annual guide is out, with distribution going well,” said Cummings. “We’ve adjusted our focus from events and reunions to outdoor recreation: biking, kayaking and more.”
She spoke about re-adjustment of budget, advertising contracts and more, which have kept her busy.
The passport program is ready and done, however, completion of the passport requires attendance to events, so Cummings says they will hold onto those until the spring of 2021.
She encouraged chamber members to invite her do Facebook Lives because of the reach online they provide to help promote events and/or history of the business.
“Those online numbers are really starting to grow (thousands of views, lots of shares), so if you have an interesting story or want to share what’s happening in the area, new exhibit or display, please let me know. People are looking for things to do where they can be outside.”
The next Troy Chamber of Commerce meeting is Wednesday, Aug. 5, at noon.
