Mr. David Fortune of Athens has offered to share his personal memories of Louis Zampirini, the ‘unbroken’ hero of the book and the current film ‘Unbroken.’
Mr. Fortune will recount his experiences and his impressions of the Olympic runner who survived a bomber crash, 47 days on a raft in the Pacific, and years in prison camp. The two met in California during a transformative period in Zampirini’s life. This was a man who had known extraordinary trials and was transformed by them, was able to forgive and motivated to help others.
The scheduled book for discussion is “Sycamore Row” by John Grisham, a master storyteller of legal thrillers. The protagonist, Jake Brigance, will be remembered from Grisham’s first novel, ‘A Time to Kill.’ The setting is Ford County, Mississippi, present time, where the plot centers on a will, handwritten before a suicide, leaving a fortune to a black housekeeper.

Refreshments,(please bring a cup) a stimulating exchange of ideas, and good company will begin at 1 pm at the County Library(570-297-2436) on Rt.6, just west of Burlington.
