Hal Jenkins has been carving since 1990 and specializes in all types of birds and fish. Hal uses specialized carving tools to create his figures and hand paints to finish his creations. Over the years he has honed his carving skills through numerous seminars in MD and VA as well as hundreds of hours of practice. Hal is a member of The Ward Foundation Museum in Salisbury, MD, which is dedicated to wildfowl art, as well as the Lycoming County Wood Carvers, and the Lycoming County Arts Council. His work has garnered numerous National and International Awards and Hal’s carvings can be found in collections all across the United States. In addition to wood carving he is an avid “catch & release “fly fisherman and fly-tier. Along with teaching carving classes he has also taught fly-tying and fly-casting. Hal is a member and past President of the local Trout Unlimited Chapter, The Federation of Fly Fisherman and Ducks Unlimited. His background in fly-fishing has definitely helped the process of carving more realistic fish. Hal’s words of wisdom to all are these: “Fishing is not a matter of life or death, it’s more important than that.”
The Endless Mountain Turners, founded in 2011, has over 20 members who meet in alternate months in Troy and Wellsboro. Wood turners are famous for sharing their techniques and skills and each meeting consists of a demo, show and tell and business session. On June 13, the members of the Chapter will be demonstrating the art and skill of woodturning utilizing the local species of cherry and maple. The turners will be creating bowls, tops and honey dippers on lathes, with emphasis on the safety aspects of turning, proper use of tools and finishes.
