Gail McMahon demonstrated how to make the intricate snowflakes that will be used to decorate the State of the Art exhibit at the State Farm Insurance building in Troy. McMahon is chair of the event which will be held in December. Member Carol Ulmer displayed some of the beautiful snowflakes she had made and commented on how fun they were to make. Mary Alice displayed a pretty little bird ornament she had made from a milkweed pod.

The club will be celebrating its 20th anniversary and is planning a garden tour and tea to celebrate this landmark occasion. Heritage Garden Club is proud of it's many achievements over the years including installing a Blue Star Memorial at The Bradford County Manor, planting and caring for the many hanging baskets in the downtown area of Troy, maintaining several gardens at The Heritage Village, planting and maintaining the Welcome to Troy signs and their involvement at the Fall Festival and Farmer Days at the Heritage Village as well as their involvement in educational activities in the community. They are also the recipients of the Community Greening Award given by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.
Four members of the club will be attending the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania Convention which will be held in Erie, PA. Barb Andrus and Gail McMahon are creating an exhibit for the convention's yearly "Trash to Treasure" contest. This year's theme is "Lake Effects, Real or Imagined". The title of their exhibit is "Catch of the Day". Sharon Brown, a member of the club will be installed as the new state president. Sharon has been involved in garden club activities for many years in the Harrisburg area and more recently in Troy and continues to hold membership both clubs. Heritage Garden Club is very honored to have her in their club where her knowledge and expertise are much appreciated.
Heritage Garden Club is very pleased to announce that two local high school students, Hannah Castle and Brooke Ostrander, have applied for Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania scholarships. Ten scholarships with a minimum amount of $1000,00 each are awarded annually to those who plan to further their study in the field of horticulture and related subjects. In addition, Heritage Garden Club voted to award scholarships of $150.00 each to Barb Andrus, Charlotte Lyon and Judy Warn to attend Garden Club Federation of PA sponsored schools. Andrus and Lyon will attend Flower Show School and Warn will attend Landscape Design School.
Following the meeting the club was treated to delicious refreshments provided by Vivian Hall, Gail McMahon and Carol Ulmer.
