Strunk has resigned his position of Director of Choral Activities at Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland, a position he inhabited for eight years. Under his direction at this 2-12 independent school, the choral program experienced dramatic expansion, growing from 28 singers in grades 9-12 to include over 200 singers in grades 6-12. Performing both internationally and domestic, his choirs have consistently received top prizes including first place in the gospel/spiritual category at the Young Prague International Music Festival and a gold medal, Outstanding Choir Award, and The Adjudicators’ Award of excellence at Heritage Festival in Orlando. Further, Bullis choirs have performed at Carnegie Hall, Washington National Cathedral and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as well as premiering works by Howard Helvey and Eric Whitacre.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Strunk also served on the state boards of the Maryland Choral Educators Association and the American Choral Directors Association. He also was founding Artistic Director of the Teen Angel Project (TAP), a performing arts service organization. Strunk will retain his position as Artistic Director of Performing Arts Educators of Sanford, FL and headline choral festivals at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Strunk holds a B.A. in Music from Mansfield University and an M.S. in Music Education from Towson University. He is the son of Rev. Willard and Mrs. Carolyn Strunk of Grover.
