On March 20, Representative Matthew Baker presented each scout an American flag, along with a certificate verifying that the flag has flown over the State Capitol.
The Arrow of Light is the highest award a Cub Scout can earn and the only award that can be transferred to the Boy Scout uniform. To earn this recognition, the scout must complete several requirements and be active in their den for at least six months since completing fourth grade or becoming ten years old. They also have to earn their Webelos Badge which has its own set of requirements.
Other requirements include reciting the Scout Oath and 12 Points of the Scout Law, along with knowledge of other parts of scouting and knot tying. The Scout needed to complete fitness activities: staying healthy, clean, and fit such as eating healthy and non use of tobacco, alcohol, and drugs.
Citizenship activities include being a good citizen, learn about government, the history of the American Flag and how to fly it; others requirements are preparing for an overnight camping and setting up, safely starting a campfire, camping overnight with their den, hiking with their den, learning outdoor safety, showing how to whip and fuse a rope. They also needed to complete two activity groups of their choice.
Once the Scout has completed the requirements, he meets with the Boy Scout Troop he may like to join. To finish his Arrow of Light Award the Scout must complete character building requirements that discuss honesty, being trustworthy, defining a promise, and what it means to keep your word even when it is difficult.
Each scout worked diligently for this award and show great pride and honor for their Pack.
Some of these Scouts earned other prestigious awards in addition to their Arrow of Light.
Super Achiever Awards were awarded to Brantson Brown, Zachary Brown, Dalton Gardiner, Craig Stanton, Jr., and Chayton Wesneski for completing all 20 of the possible activities that a Webelo Scout can earn. They also earned the Cub Scout World Conservation Award by painting the picnic tables at the Canton War Memorial Pool.
Dr. Charles H. Townes Webelos Supernova Award was awarded to Brantson Brown, Zachary Brown, and Chayton Wesneski for completing a variety of NOVA requirements in science, math, engineering, and technology.
What will they do next? They are fundraising to go to Washington DC this summer. Any way the community can help, it would be appreciated.
