It will begin at W.R. Croman Primary School, proceed down Canton Street, and end at Davison Green in Troy. Boy Scout Troop 4049 will lead the parade with banners and brochures detailing proper flag etiquette.
Any veterans who would like to participate in the parade can call the Troy Vets Club at (570) 297-3122. Transportation will provided for people who can't march
Master of Ceremony for this year’s event will be American Legion Post 49 Commander Mike Powers.
After the parade, there will be a ceremony at Davison Green. This year’s guest speaker is Lt Col John Herrington USAF (Ret.) .
Mr. Herrington graduated from Troy High School in 1958 and earned his bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College in 1962. In February 1963 John received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, beginning a career that would span over 22 years. After graduating from pilot training he would go on to accumulate over 3800 flight hours during his military career with over 3400 hours in the F-4 Phantom. While stationed in Southeast Asia John flew 100 missions over North Vietnam. He is a member of the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association and is a life member of the Order of Daedalians. He has been honored with the following awards:
Meritorious Service Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters
Distinguished Flying Cross
Air Medal with 5 oak leaf clusters
Air Force Commendation Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster
John and his wife Ellen make their home in Troy. He is a Past Commander of VFW Post 8675 and American Legion Post 49. He currently serves as the president of the Glenwood Cemetery Association and is a member of the Troy Area School District Foundation Board. John attends the First Baptist Church of Troy.
