LEROY — This Saturday is the LeRoy Old Home Days celebration on Mill Street in LeRoy.
History
About 500 people attended on record of what may be the first LeRoy Old Home Day celebration, on July 4, 1952.
According to the newspaper source provided by the LeRoy Heritage Museum, this would have been the second largest crowd to gather in the community, after the road was opened throughout LeRoy.
The Pomona Grange Band led a parade at 1:30 p.m., with the help of Newton Holcomb and Tracy Stone, who carried the flag.
According to the newspaper article, Robert and Lynn Ayers rode horseback and were followed by several children on bicycles as well as floats.
LeRoy Baptist Church took first place in the float judging and won $10. LeRoy Disciple Church took second place and White Dove Rebekah Lodge took third place.
A baseball game followed the parade. Banjo music was played in between games.
The day also hosted an amateur talent show.
The last event of the day was a ball game between the Liberty and LeRoy Pony teams, with LeRoy winning.
