The Canton Farmers' Market had six vendors on September 5. It was a cloudy day but very pleasant. John Carpenter had Piatt Road Honey; Marlene Boyce had raspberries, Kenny Biggs and his family sold goodies to raise funds for an educational trip to Mexico; The ladies from Country Delights had bread and baked goods and an abundance of garden produce; Gloria Molyneux had zucchini baked goods and homemade crafts; and there was one new vendor - Ray Chaapel had tomatoes and beets from his garden. The Farmers' Market will return September 12 from 8 am to noon in Canton's Main St. Park. People with baked goods, garden or farm produce, craft items or similar wares are invited to set up. The monthly meeting of the Ward Township Supervisors took place September 1 with supervisors Ed Sheaffer, James Tompkins, and Lloyd Ayres, Township Secretary Elnor Blaney, and Roadmaster Ted Seachrist present.
After approving the minutes of the last meeting, the treasurer's report was approved with these balances: General fund checking, $56.054.94; State Fund Checking, $129,587.45; Act 13 checking, $2,2224.41; Act 13 Money Market, $1,040,150.38; General Fun Money Market, $25,431.41; Capital Fund CD, $121,243.87. Receipts included Realty Transfer Tax, $749.70; District Court Fines, $60.72; Real Estate Taxes, $2,166.11; Tioga County Tax Claim Bureau, $335.48; The Canton Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) will be having a "Seek and Ye Shall Find" Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, September 19 from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
Teams (consisting of up to six family members, friends, neighbors, or individuals) are invited to join in the fun, informational, and rewarding experience of exploring the Borough of Canton. The members of the BCRAC have announced that the 2015-2016 season for the Thursday Nights at the Rialto Theatre in Canton have been approved. Admission is a donation at the gate and parking is free. There will be over 100 vendors along with the fire department's food booths. Penn Valley Shows will have their cotton candy and funnel cake trailers on the grounds along with a few small rides for the kids (weather permitting). The Bradford County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program invites countywide non-profit agencies and municipalities to apply for project funding eligible for the program. The Apple Pie/Cheesecake contest is happening at the Apple 'n Cheese Festival on October 3 at 11 a.m. on the festival grounds. Judging is at 11 a.m., followed by an auction of the winning entries at 11:30. The divisions of the contest are two crust pies, one crust pies and cheesecake. The prizes are awarded for first, second, and third place. There is a special category for entries of the children's contest. Children 12 and under will be judged separately. All entries should be prepared and presented in disposable pie pans or plates. Get your cameras, brushes, paints and pencils ready! It is nearly time for the Pennsylvania Apple & Cheese Fine Art and Photography Show.
The Festival and show will be held the first full weekend of October, Saturday the 3rd and Sunday the 4th . The hours are 10:00 to 6:00 on Saturday and 10:00 to 5:00 on Sunday. The festival is held at the Historic Manley-Bohlayer Farm in East Canton, PA. The site is approximately 3 miles east of Canton just off route 414.
