The June 18 meeting of the Troy Lions Club at the Troy Vets Club was a busy one. The Lions recognized Kelsey Bristol, Troy High School athlete. It was spouses night, new officers were installed, and a new member inducted. On June 6 Ron Taylor had the privilege of attending the Relay for Life of Chemung County . He is pictured with some of his friends, Cookie and Scoop from Sweet Frog. They raised $50,794.67 He also attended the Relay in Williamsport on May 15 where five teams with 340 participants raised over $127,497.63. Ron took part in the June 13 Relay held in Wyalusing. This marked the third Relay for Life he attended so far this year. As a survivor of Cancer he is very proud to take part in these yearly events. In January of 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson declared The War on Poverty in his State of the Union speech. Later that same year, he stood in the White House Rose Garden to announce the creation of Project Head Start, a federal effort designed to ensure that at-risk children across the nation would receive a quality early childhood experience. Shortly after the announcement, Sargent Shriver took the lead in assembling a panel of experts to develop a comprehensive child development program that would help communities meet the needs of disadvantaged preschool children. A total of 440 Mansfield University students have been named to the spring 2015 semester. To be named to the Dean's list, a student must attend full-time and earn at least a 3.5 GPA. A total of 149 Mansfield University students have been named to the spring 2015 President's List.
To be named to the President's List, a student must attend the university full-time and attain a 4.0 QPA for the semester. Canton Borough Council Recreation Committee Chairman Diana Thompson gave this report at the June 8 meeting of Borough Council.
The Pool opened at noon on Saturday, June 6. Manager is Kari Koval and Head Lifeguard is Toree Baxter Regular Lifeguards are Emma Boyd, Morgan Burgess, Elizabeth Tymeson, Gabrielle Tymeson, Madison Thoren and Dominique Comereski Substitute Lifeguards are Abigail Martin, Katie Henson, Whitney Bailey, Brittany LaMont, Matthew Berryman and Zachary Schrader. Mackayla Wesneski, who had been hired as a substitute, found other employment. The Armenia Township board of Supervisors met June 11 at the Township Office with Supervisors Wayne Morgan and Steve Harris; Secretary Mallory Babcock, Treasurer Gary Horning, Emergency Management Coordinator Ken Krise, and an audience of nine.
There was one comment from the public. Ron Wandell thanked the Township for dirt. The minutes of the May meeting were accepted. The Bradford County Heritage Association held its monthly meeting May 20. Attending were: Bonnie Pierce, Barbara Barrett, Ralph Knapp, Dale Palmer, Babs Morris, Marty Roloson, and Deb Lutz.
April’s minutes were reviewed and approved. The 3rd Annual “Farm Days 1866’ program was held May 11 & 12, 2015 with over 600 4th grade public, private and home schooled students and their chaperons attending. Cuz Excavating continues its practice of making generous donations to the community with a $1,000 gift to the Green Free Library. Owners Dave and Joy Ward are pictured with their grandchildren Gracelyn and Paislee. Mr. Ward is presenting the check to Librarian Cathy Golder. Gracelyn and Paislee are regular visitors to the Children Story Hour and craft events at the library, and Mrs. Ward says, "Cathy does a wonderful job. The kids love her, and she is always happy. We are glad to support the programs here." |
