The 2021 primary election is set for next Tuesday, May 18.
The Sentinel reached out to the candidates for borough council and asked each of them why they were running.
Alyssa Packard “I originally ran as a junior council person to gain experience in how the “real world” operated and accepted the fill-in position for John Mosser because I felt a fresh perspective from the younger generation was exactly what this council needed - and still needs. I may not understand quite how everything works, but I’m hopeful I’ll continue to gain knowledge of the inner workings of the town and use that knowledge to my benefit to let the younger voices of the town be heard.”
Lynette Ambruch “I feel a responsibility to help support and promote the community.”
Robert E. Johnson IV “I want to help try to help make Canton a place that people will come to and remember good things instead of bad things. I want to do what’s right for the community. We have a lot of mixed age people living in town. I want to be on a team that will fight there ass off to keep canton a beautiful town and a team that will fight for the people.”
David Preston “I don’t have an axe to grind. There are vacancies on council that need to be filled by people willing to listen and learn how and why decisions are made. I have enjoyed living in Canton most of my life, and maybe it’s time I gave something back to the town. If elected, I’ll do my best for the people of Canton.”
Michael Shultz “Earlier this year I proposed the Sidewalk Loan Program with a low interest rate so that business and residents would have another option in repairing some of our infrastructure for the betterment of the Community. This was passed unanimously by council and we have already had people reach out and inquire about the loan. During my time, Council has also purchased and installed security cameras to cover Borough property at both the Canton War Memorial Pool and the Street Dept. I welcome new ideas and discussions on how to better Canton.
William Mosher “I am running to help be one of the voices for the people to try and help make our community stronger.”
Brian Koval “I decided to run for borough council to help improve the town that I grew up in and call home. I also believe it’s important to develop ways to make our community a place where folks visit and support local business. In addition, I’m hopeful visitors and young people will find opportunities for their future.”
Alex Schrader “I just want to see my town thrive. I am not thrilled with how things are going and I just want to make a positive change in moving forward. I would like to help facilitate new businesses coming in. We need people and an economy.
