On October 15, Guthrie dedicated a boardroom in memory of the late William H. Ransom III, the Guthrie Healthcare System’s longest serving board chairman. Dr. Joseph Scopelliti, Guthrie CEO said, “It is really an honor to be able to put his name on this room. Bill was someone who made things easier and he rarely took credit for the things that were accomplished but rarely would have been accomplished without him.” William “Bill” Ransom III was a long-time community volunteer and Valley businessman, Ransom served on numerous Guthrie boards and committees and was the longest-serving chairman of the board of Guthrie Healthcare System, having served for almost 18 years. He led the Guthrie organization through integration with two hospitals, Guthrie Corning Hospital in 1999 and Towanda Memorial Hospital. Ransom passed away in July at the age of 73. |
Troy TOPS #986 met October 19 at the Troy Vets Club with thirteen members weighing in. There was a total loss of 7 3/4 lbs. There was one turtle. Top TOPS was Elaine with 3 lbs. Runners-up were Barb and Velma with 1 3/4 lbs. The fruit basket was shared by Barb and Velma. The menu winner was Rose Marie and Rose Marie also won the quarter game. The No-No food is pasta and the Yes-Yes food is fruits. This is your week winner was Barb. The Three Xs were drawn by Brenda, Jim and Velma. The club walked 61 miles for the week, with a total of 2,705 for the year. The Challenge for the Week is walking. Bingo was played by the club. The meeting was closed with the "Helping Hands" verse. Anyone interested in TOPS Club can contact any club member. ![]() Connie Sickler, a talented artist and owner of Settlement House in Sylvania donated one of her prints "The Gift of Peace" to the Saint Micheal Parish Fine Art Fundraiser. Connnie is a well-known artist in the area and was recently one of the judges at the Apple and Cheese Festival art show in Canton. She has been painting for many years and proudly supports a number of artists throughout Bradford and Tioga counties and beyond. Anyone interested in obtaining her print or other works of art can come to the sale and silent auction held on November 7, beginning at noon at Saint Michael the Archangel Church, Canton. There will be an Election Day Dinner on Tuesday November 3 at the West Burlington United Methodist Church. Serving will be from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. Menu will be Ham Loaf, Veggies and Home Made Pies. Take Outs will be Available. Are you an adventurous local photographer? If so, join us at the Bradford County Library on Saturday, October 24 at 1:30 pm for our mystery location photo contest. Be prepared to venture to our unknown location up to 25 miles away from the library. Contestants will select photographs from this endeavor to enter in our competition. Entries for the photography contest are due by 6 pm on Friday, November 13. Contest rules are available at all public libraries in Bradford County for both adult and juvenile entries. Juvenile entries are not required to participant in the mystery tour. Ages will be divided according to grade levels (1st-4th, 5th-8th, and 9th-12th). A reception to announce the winners will take place on Saturday, November 21 at 1 pm. The gallery of photographs will be on display within the library for the week leading up to the reception. The Green Free Library has received these gifts: From the CHS Class of 1954 in memory of: Leota Mix, Gerald Gardner, Mary Lou Hurley Krause and Janet Mott Davis. Everybody loves fair week, and not just because of the hot dogs, soda, prizes and rides. The fair is about community. It’s about God and country, and having a good time together. This fall Mt. Pisgah Wesleyan Church is getting in on the fun with an event they’ve dubbed: Meet Me at the Fair. Meet Me at the Fair will take place at Mt. Pisgah Wesleyan Church Sunday, November 1st, from 12:30 to 2:00 pm. Open to the public, this event features information about each ministry offered by the church, but that’s not all. In addition to learning about church ministries, fair goers are invited to enjoy FREE food, balloons, face painting, prizes, and more. A “donation station” for the Endless Mountains Pregnancy Care Center will also be on-site at the church fair grounds.
